President Bush, who's largely ignored the risky business of Middle East peacemaking throughout his nearly seven years in office, will take center stage Tuesday at the international peace conference he's hosting in Annapolis, Md.

He won't remain there for long, however. Bush plans to head back to the White House after delivering his opening speech to the diplomats and dignitaries at the U.S. Naval Academy, and while surprises are always possible, White House aides said he wasn't planning to offer new American proposals to resolve the conflict.

Bush knows this, It's better to be thought an imbecile than to participate and let everyone know that you're dumber than dog shit.

George does not want to work too hard. A photo op and short speech for the cameras and back to doing..., what is it that the President is doing today?

Looks like this is nothing but a shell game and a ploy. Both Israel and the U.S. cannot be trusted in the resolution of this conflict.

Just a thought, and a bit off topic, but what if Darth Cheney's ticker finally gives out. THEN will the DEMS impeach?

Commander Codpiece is allergic to peace.

"We are going to have lots of participants in what I hope will launch a serious process of negotiations between us and the Palestinians," he said.
"... between us and the Palestinians," he said.
"... between us and the Palestinians," he said.
Is there any wonder why Arabs think the U.S. is partial?

Wow, he's not even staying. For all the talk about how this conference might provide one last chance at doing something constructive, he's not giving it any consideration. It will be a fine opportunity for photo ops and handshakes (with fingers crossed) though.

It's really not in Israel's best economic interest to make peace and they enjoy maintaining their Hitlarian status quo of ethnically cleansing the Palestinians to retain the West Bank.

I first became aware of the various "Middle East Crises" and the conflict between the Palestinians and the Israelis in the early fifties through an instrument that was handed out in schools at the time titled the "Weekly Reader."

My first firm memories of the conflict revolve around the closing of the Suez canal by Gamal Nasser and the subsequent Suez crisis which led a brief but deadly war involving Egypt, Great Britain and France. That war was but a prelude to others to come over the last five decades.

Not a week goes by that I don't read a story of the terror and suffering of the people of that area, the so called "Holy Land" They are stories of war and death, stories of terror and poverty, of pain and degradation and they have gone on and on without end for most of my life.

Endless wars, endless crises and endless conferences in which nothing has been accomplished but a few symbolic handshakes and some cheek kissing between the antagonists and the widely disseminated photos and news items crying "hope for peace in the Middle East."

Now another conference is taking place in Annapolis. Will I pay attention to it? Yes. Do I have any hope whatsoever that anything will emerge from the effort other than the obligatory public displays of reticent "understanding" between those involved? Of course not.

The Guardianht is covering this edition of the periodic "Middle East Peace Conference" in a big way. For a beautifully done series of articles, and multi media which will guide you through the history and current realities of the conflict that has for so long negatively affected every life on this planet take a look over here:

So the anti-midus is taking is crap inducing wand and going off to other places?

So, in other words, he's letting other people do the "HARD WORK".

Frankly, who would listen to that bi-pola asshole* now anyway. He* bombs countries in the middle east but now, when his* "legacy" looks as good as in the shitter, he* tries a last minute save to make everything all better for history, but how in the name of anything at all, will any of this countries believe anything that this administration tells them?

more of the hot air asshole* blowing out of texas.

Bush thought it was a PEAS conference. He tried eating "moshed peas" once in a British pub and they made him want to throw up.

If it were a chapter meeting at the frat house, he could hang out, do some funny stuff, kid around. But to ask him to actually have adult conversations, give and take with people of substance wherein ideas are exchanged and discussed, that's just not in the cards. If he can't dictate or otherwise do some decidering, it's just no fun for him.

Aha.

This then is Condie's deal. He probbly told her she could do it if she wanted. And, to save her own butt, her OWN legacy, she gratefully took his blessings.

But after a few opening remarks, the pResident became bored and started working the room. JUST BEFORE he started to massage the neck of King Abdullah, he was quietly escorted from the room to clear some brush around the White House back forty (they truck in bales of brush, btw.)

He is the Peace pResident. Gotcha!!!

Ugh.
