Trent Lott's Likely Replacement Featured In Borat

Pickering Speaks

Sen. Trent Lott's resignation announcement Monday may have woken many on Capitol Hill out of their tryptophan stupors, but speculation over his replacement is not surprising anyone. The focus is on Mississippi Rep. Chip Pickering and Roger Wicker as the most likely candidates to replace Lott.

Pickering announced this summer that he would be retiring from Congress after ten plus years to spend more time with his family. If Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour appoints Pickering to Lott's Senate seat, then he'll be hitting the campaign trail instead of going home. Lott's seat will be up for grabs again in a special election occurring the same day as the November 4, 2008 general election.

And if that's the case, Pickering might find himself answering questions about his cameo in "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan." Pickering appeared at a Pentecostal gathering where theories against evolution were cheered and the Chief Justice of the Mississippi State Supreme Court declared that America "will always be a Christian nation until the good lord returns."

This does not just happen - it takes generations of deliberate ignorance; of sustained in breeding; of really trying hard to be stupid to get to this point.

Pickering is yet another "young republican" style kiss-ass of Karl Rove.

I couldn't quite remember who this guy Pickering reminded me of until all the posters of Chuckie with the knife came back. Put some freckles on this guy's face a little red tint to his hair, and there it is.

Really, it's sad that these Chuckie types have any political clout in America. I don't care what they think or say in their homes or neighborhoods, but they have no place "serving" the public in any way, shape, or form.

I may be wrong but I seem to remember this as the only scene where cohen just stood by and let the events play out on their own.

Totally unbelievable--and people like this are in power. No wonder the terriorists are winning.

Jesus mother fucking christ. Until we go out in force, and vote these sons of bitches into oblivion, we're fucked. I don't believe that the Dems are all that much better politically, but morally we've got them beat, hands down. "Hands down" to the "Repuglicans" means hands down your pants, and holding you by the short and curlys.

Edwards,is our best hope.
Electable, and respectable.

OMFG. What the hell was THAT? Did you see the look on Sasha Cohen's face? That's the only time I've seen him drop the mask of Borat. He was APPALLED, genuinely alarmed at what he was seeing. He's a comedian and what he was seeing wasn't funny. (Okay, it was that, too, but mostly alarming...)
That highly participatory Pentecostal gig is indistinguishable, to me, from fantasy magic similar folk lore. WTF was that dude yammering, the one holding Borat's hand awkwardly? Speaking in tongues, um, right... I've known Wiccan folks who were much, much saner than that.

Lovely. The rich get richer, the "leaders" get more and more dumb.

people who claim not to "believe " in evolution have no place in the public discourse -
Evolution is a scientific theory like gravity
so if you don't believe in scientific theory go jump off a tall building!

An overheard conversation between one smart fellow and another:

S: Mississippi is the asshole of the nation.
A: Isn't that a prejudiced thing to say? Or have you been there?
S: I've been there.
A: What were you doing there?
S: Only passing through.

Brewy. You've already broken the rule that states'better to be silent and thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt'. You're over your head, son. Best to move along before someone else joins the discussion and the truth revealed further.
