Wednesday's "700 Club" featured a question about the Christian view of yoga. A concerned viewer asked, "Does it really have its origins in evil?" Pat Robertson gave the verdict: Yes! According to Pat, stretching is fine, but by repeating common yoga mantras, you are actually praying to Hindu gods Vishnu and Krishna and you're not even aware of it! Check out the clip below and tell us what you think. Is it wrong for Christians to practice yoga?

Pat needs to start doing stand up routines more frequently. I don't follow that comedy circle much. However, everytime that I hear him speak, he provides great comedy relief. He is almost God's jestor. The crown prince of christian comedy.

Fi Fi on the devil demons of Yoga and they shall burn in the pits of hell!

Two years ago Laura Bush hosted a fitness fair on the South Lawn and her own personal makeover began. "She started working out after that," former press secretary Noelia Rodriguez tells PEOPLE. Now 58, the First Lady meets with a trainer three times a week for a mix of cardio, gentle Pilates and yoga, plus abdominal work with an inflatable fitness ball. "

Robertson doesn't want people to get into serious Yoga because the resulting enlightenment that would occur at some point to the student would completely expose him for what he is.

A Charlatan and Hypocrite

Clearly people that write in can't think for themselves and need someone to answer basic questions, many of which shouldn't need to be asked in the first place (other than by a kid maybe).

The sheer amount of misplaced fear and skepticism these religious zealots have of things like Yoga, Harry Potter and Halloween (just a few examples) is laughable and sad at the same time.

There's just so much wasted passion and emotion on non-issues/personal issues that could be used for much more productive things.

What an idiot. Yoga means to connect with the Supreme, with God. And Krishna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Vishnu means God.

An old saying "The secret is visibility without exposure" applies to Pat Robertson. The blessing of Television is that people like Robertson have been exposed.
Ohg.

I think yoga is a GOOD thing.

There is an old Indian proverb (roughly translated): Yoga fills the soul and the belly. A woman who can put both legs behind her head, will never know loneliness nor hunger.

Oh for Pete's sake...

If you don't have the intention of praying to different Gods, then you're not actually praying to different Gods...

Besides, my elderly uncle did yoga every morning and he was a Catholic monsignor.

So Pat, I think my uncle's position with God trumps yours...

Come on now!

This video showed not the usual bat-shit loony statement from the Rev, but a quite moderate response to the question.

He never even said "Yes! Yoga does have its origins in evil."

He simply said that sometimes it's a form of pantheism and "spooky", but I suspect that any idea not from the Bible--a book spookily written by God--is strange and bewildering to a great religious icon of the ignorant like Pat Robertson.

Pat Robertson is a bigot and a fanatic ready to kill anyone over the color, genitalia, language or name of god. Like all the monoliths of the old age, he is raving in his own twilight.

I remember when I was just a small boy many years ago. A TV preacher came on my grandfathers’ old black and white Sylvania TV set one Sunday morning between Davy & Goliath and Huntley & Brinkley. The TV preacher was damning the heathen TV audience one moment and then asking for money (for his ministry) the next. Now I went to a Catholic school during the week. Continued on in parochial for 8 years of my life back then. So I had a passing knowledge of Christ casting out the moneychangers from the temple. This TV preacher reminded me of that parable. My parents were of mixed religions. My mother was a devout Catholic and my dad was a lapsed Methodist. We went to church probably twice a month. My paternal grandfather was pretty much agnostic. That long ago Sunday morning I remember asking my grandfather why on earth anyone would be so naive as to send this obvious charlatan money. His reply was along the lines that there are a lot of breathtakingly ignorant people in the world. And religion could be used for both good and evil. Religion can be used to take advantage of the weak-minded. And the form of religion that these TV bible thumpers want to impose on us has absolutely nothing to do with good will toward men. It’s only about the money – for them and theirs. I never forgot that.

Do you know what is truly Evil? A quack religious zealot who claims to know what both God and Satan are thinking.

This Christianity-bashing is getting quite old. Robertson does not represent all of Christianity. He's a right-wing nut, for sure, but this should not give people the right to paint all Christians with the same brush. I'm a Christian. I'm also a liberal Democrat who is pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, etc., etc. etc. To suggest that all Christians belong "on their own loony island where they can practice their stupidity together in clumbs of ignorance" (and I'm sure this highly educated writer meant "clumps") or that "Christianity has fucked up more young children than anything on this planet" only shows your own close-minded ignorance.

Oh No! First Halloween, and now Yoga!
Jeez Pat... it's just no fun being a Christian anymore!
