President Hugo Chavez on Friday wrapped up his campaign to push through broad constitutional changes with a broadside attack against adversaries at home and abroad -- including a threat to cut off oil exports to the United States.

Chavez told a crowd gathered in the center of Caracas that if the referendum was approved and the result was questioned -- "if the 'yes' vote wins on Sunday and the Venezuelan oligarchy, playing the [U.S.] empire's game, comes with their little stories of fraud" -- then he would order oil shipments to the United States halted Monday.

From its inception as a colony, oil rich Venezuela has seen one of the widest disparities of wealth (the US is getting there) in the world. The social darwinists never seem to understand that economic revolution will someday follow and with it harsh consequences for segments of the population who had previously enjoyed a priviledged status. Wall Street gets the jitters. The Latin American playground is closed for repairs.

How are we still paying this guy to send us oil, after he made his Bush is the devil comment. I guess we are addicted to oil.
Don't you think that if Bush had the balls, he would have told this guy to stuff his oil.
Now, Bush is going to let Chavez have the last laugh and place an embargo on us.

Hey, I'm not a Bush supporter. But, I don't think what Chavez said was right.
Perhaps we could cancel our Venezualian oil on Sunday and put an order in for some Brazilian oil on Monday.
Just a thought.

This was a meaningless treat. The oil from his country is so high in sulfur that few refineries outside of the US are sophisitated enough to be able to refine it.

Many people say that it is socialized BS. Well if the state or a province in Canada dosn't like it...they should say why not. In Canada the doctor and or hospital or medi center has to provide service first and then worry about monetary compensation if the patiet was out of province.

America can study all the countries that provide total healthcare for their citizens and they should very well come up with a system for all Americans. If elected officials don't like it....drop their universal coverage for politicians. Many countries have "universal health care"...which means it covers everyone.

The world does have to understand that those who are not covered in the US are not uninsured of those who are not insured.,how many work in the stables of the wealthy, where they take a ride every morning.I'm talking about the little man perched on a horse. Anyway, Universal heath care makes sense. It is no socialized medicine as Republicans will have you believe. Universal healthcare can be done for 1/2 of what it's costing US now. I live in Canada and I pay less tax and a smaller premium for total healthcare,

Chavez...STFU.....you came to the same level as U.S president Bush....people loved you from the start. Now both of you are hated by your respective people. Both want to suppress their countries into dictatorship.

If the people of Venezuela are stupid enough to weaken the controls written into their constitution and give more power to "El Comandante" then they deserve whatever they get.

I hope we don't ever expend any more US blood or tresure rescuing the third world from itself.

Bad timing Hugo. When the Fed cuts interest rates later this month, oil prices should climb again.

Buenas Dias President Hugo Chavez.
Not all North Americans born in the USA are idiots and bush parrots. There are many such as myself believe that you are a true American Hero, albeit South American. You have demonstrated to the citizens of Venezuela, South and Central American and around the world, that a President, A government can represent nand provide for the general welfare of its citizens and guests. Something our Constituion requires us to do but is often ignored.
I am a proponent of Nationalizing the Natural Resources of the US particulary, Air, Water, and energy, so all of the US share the bounty of a once proud country.
Viva Chavez

The neotards are so busy fighting their little neocon wars with Chavez and Iran they can not see the erosion of liberties, the corruption of government, the gutting of the constitution and emptying of the treasury at the hands of their own muderous furher. Isn't it ironic? Guess that log in the eye thing prevents them from seeing anything else but their own projections. Quote Chavez all you want neotards, you only prove your low life existance.

"What they have implanted here, which is really a 'gringo' custom, is terrorism," Chavez said, quoted in the local press. "They disguise children as witches and wizards, that is contrary to our culture."

His comments came after authorities in Caracas recently seized pumpkins, cardboard skeleton costumes and other traditional Halloween items.
