Nonwriting staff members of "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" became the latest casualties of the four-week Hollywood writers strike when they were laid off Friday.

NBC confirmed the layoffs at the show without providing further details. The show went into reruns when the strike began on Nov. 5 and Leno honored the picket lines.

actually, i was just about to rip on leno,
but then i remembered a happenstance meeting
with the guy, and he's known as the nicest guy
in show biz - cause he is. he used to be super funny, but then he turned into a politician of sorts. he got unfunny. i get the feeling there will be a news item soon about his generosity to the writers, and this story will fade away. i'm a letterman guy - but i remember the olden days when letterman had leno on his show, and the world stopped to watch - "what's getting under your craw?..." leno, in a leather jacket would let it rip. the world has changed and they're now enemies. leno lost his edge a long time ago. but still, i remember the guy was cool to me, when he didn't know me at all, and i knew the hell out of him. jay, will the right thing on this one - he's wired that way. i'm sure this story is only a rip in time and will readily be resolved.

Letterman is personally picking up the salaries of his staff, but he owns his show, and Leno does not.

However, Leno makes far more than Conan O'Brien and O'Brien is picking up the tab for his staff.

The hideous Jay Leno is rightwing trash, He's a neocon shill like Dennis Miller, both who are still bashing Clinton for his liasons with the sleaziest, tackiest not funny or witty smarmy remarks possible, while at the same time supporting Arnold who is even worse, and totally ignoring Bush and his craven Repubican Party's lying, murderous invasion of Iraq.

I note THAT LENO also has never, never, ever had a guest host on HIS show .... and that is exactly how he got his start in television, guest hosting for Johnny Carson.
Leno also used The Tonight Show from which to broadcast to all over the nation, incessantly, bashing smears and lies about Grey Davis for at least ix months before he brought on Arnold, to the sounds of bells and whistles, to just-all-of-a-sudden annouce he was going to run for Governor, right after he ran Davis out of the State, that is....
All of this slime was planned and stage managed for "Der Gropinator" well in advance, and the unprincipled people of California just ate Leno's and Schwarzenegger's smearing lies up. It's been well documented that A.S. was colluding with the Texas companies that provided energy to Ca. several years in advance to undermine Davis.

No self-respecting Democrat should ever, ever go on his pathetic excuse for a late-night comedy show.

A lot of 'wanna-be' slave masters in America. They're not missing tv as long as they have a dvd player and a fresh copy of 'Gone with the Wind.'

Leno's addicted to buying old cars
For which he needs all those extra dollars.
If he, to his staff, would ever be fair
He couldn't afford that Mercury Montclair.
Nor could the ignorant, self-serving fucker
Buy that nice 1948 Tucker.

I feel bad for the writers, but their frustrated desire to make more money is hardly comparable with the suffering of a child whose parent was murdered, or suffering of a parent whose child was murdered. Murdered by the war. The very child and the parent they never write about. The very war they cheered for, giggled about and rarely mention now.

Umm...let me get this straight. A talk show hosted by a comedian needs writers? If Leno is so funny, shouldn't he write his own material?

The government needs to regulate the wages of entertainers and everyone in the industry. They get paid way too much. The manual laborers of society should make more then these producers, actors and writers.

Jay Leno's a hypocrite without any peer
Who constantly makes jokes about the ugly and queer.
In a fair world he long ago would have been a has-been,
A loathsome, hack comic with a gigantic chin.

As long as somebody is willing to pay your asking price, you're not overpaid? Did anybody force NBC to sign Leno for $16 million a year? Did anybody force the Yankees to resign A-Rod for $335 million? I rest my case.

Why not outsource the show to Mumbai
and produce it for a third of the cost
with better writers
who are happy with enough for
a bowl of curry and job security
and having their jokes heard
by the society before they go to sleeep
and dream --- think of it, the power of
sending all this material directly from
INDIA TO the homes all along Route 66
...Jay can stay in BURBANK ...EVERYTHING
CAN BE DONE IN Mumbai...
....Everyone should visit INDIA...SEEING
IS BELIEVING...WORLDS BEST WRITERS FOR
LESS...
