Huckabee

Huckabee dodged the question that time. But in 1997, Huckabee claimed that Jesus would have agreed with him on supporting the death penalty. Shortly before a triple execution in Arkansas in Jan. 1997, a caller called into Huckabee's show on Arkansas Educational Television Network and asking how he squared his Christian teachings with his support for the death penalty. As the Arkansas Times reported on Jan. 22, 1997:

"Interestingly enough," Huckabee allowed, "if there was ever an occasion for someone to have argued against the death penalty, I think Jesus could have done so on the cross and said, 'This is an unjust punishment and I deserve clemency'."

I wonder if Huckabee ia a zealot behind a face of moderation. He chooses to ignore all the science backing Darwin. He argues Jesus was a symbol for the justice of the death penalty. I thought Jesus died for the forgiveness of our sins. Christ with his message of tolerance and compassion for the poor is very much at odds with modern conservatism.

Only America could provide the "moral power to evangelize the world," said Lyman Beecher in 1835.

Americanism is an "ism" in the same way that communism was. Since there is no threat from communism we now need "terrorism" to define who we are because we must all be against something.

Can you imagine something being un-Swedish or un-English?

We have to institutionalize virtue, to destroy evil people, and eliminate wicked institutions and practices. A majority will even tell pollsters that God is the moral guiding force of American democracy. The view social and political dramas as morality plays, as battles between God and the Devil, so that compromise is virtually unthinkable, according to Martin Lipset

Individualism is the center of that religion, the moral standard by which everything is judged. Evangelical zeal has been a major factor in closing off any alternatives to the mainstream.

What the hell?

For anyone who's ever read (and understood) the New Testament, this makes no sense. Really lowers my opinion of Huckabuck.

Christianity was probably a philosophy until some guy decided to cash in to make it a religion. Right then and there the self-righteous nut cases tried to capitalize on the story.

If I were to tell you that I could walk on water how many of you would want proof? Parting the Red Sea, Noah's Ark, Adam and Eve? Really, I do believe in Santa and the Good Fairy but not that Huckster has ever talked to God.

This is what's wrong with America. The real religion is money around here because that's what most people worship. I'm really sick of the killing in the name of the Lord. If Jesus did exist and his story is even half true, that was not his message.

Likewise with the constitution - you can throw pearls before swine. Father forgive them, they haven't a clue.

Hey, what was all that crap in there about
graven images and idolatry or whatever?
Shouldn't some of these people be bitch-slapping
themselves with their own religious literature?
Oh. They do that already. Nevermind.

INSANITY REIGNS SUPREME!!!!!!!

Huckster isn't only nuts...he's dangerous!!!
The Christian Coalition, the right wing extremists, the zealots, will use all their money and might to put this man in office!!

I have absolutely no problem with whatever religion or belief system you choose...just don't push it on me!!!

There is no place in politics for religion...if you want to use your religion to ask some "higher being" for the strength to make the right decisions, then so be it.
When an elected official let's say, does not believe in abortion, and the majority of their constituents want them to vote in favor of an abortion bill, he damn well better to the job he was elected to do, and his personal views be damned!!

Yes huckster enforced the death penalty as Governor - but his rationalization of this Jesus on the cross crap is shere lunacy!!

loki...have no fear of going to hell...we're already there! Gotta be something better on the other side!!

Huckabee and his followers are Ox Cart Republicans. They have rejected the enlightenment. Does that mean he is not qualified to serve? I don't know.

I think Matt Taibbi of Rolling Stone magazine describes Mike Huckabee very well:

'Mike Huckabee represents something that is either tremendously encouraging or deeply disturbing, depending on your point of view: a marriage of Christian fundamentalism with economic populism. Rather than employing the patented Bush-Rove tactic of using abortion and gay rights to hoodwink low-income Christians into supporting patrician, pro-corporate policies, Huckabee is a bigger-government Republican who emphasizes prison reform and poverty relief. In the world of GOP politics, he represents something entirely new — a cross between John Edwards and Jerry Falwell, an ordained Southern Baptist preacher who actually seems to give a shit about the working poor.'

'But Huckabee is also something else: full-blown nuts, a Christian goofball of the highest order. He believes the Earth may be only 6,000 years old, angrily rejects the evidence that human beings evolved from "primates" and thinks America wouldn't need so much Mexican labor if we allowed every aborted fetus to grow up and enter the workforce. To top it off, Huckabee also left behind a record of ethical missteps in the swamp of Arkansas politics that make Whitewater seem like a jaywalking ticket.'

Huck, you fucked up.

Jesus was executed in spite of the fact that he was innocent of any crime.

Dance your way out of that one, you moron.

Sigh. Another Christian wacko...had Jesus actually stayed buried he'd be turning in his grave/tomb.

Democrats never say this kind of stuff...more Republican insanity to come...stay tuned.

Another delusional christian claiming to know the inner-workings of a 2,000 year old dead hippie's mind?

I'm so glad there's no way the Republicans can win this year.
