Huckabee

Huckabee dodged the question that time. But in 1997, Huckabee claimed that Jesus would have agreed with him on supporting the death penalty. Shortly before a triple execution in Arkansas in Jan. 1997, a caller called into Huckabee's show on Arkansas Educational Television Network and asking how he squared his Christian teachings with his support for the death penalty. As the Arkansas Times reported on Jan. 22, 1997:

"Interestingly enough," Huckabee allowed, "if there was ever an occasion for someone to have argued against the death penalty, I think Jesus could have done so on the cross and said, 'This is an unjust punishment and I deserve clemency'."

"Modern Christianity consists mainly of two notions. The first is the saying about the "little child," that one becomes a Christian as a little child; such is the Kingdom of Heaven. The second is the thief on the cross.
People live by virtue of the former.....in death they reckon upon consoling themselves with the example of the thief. This is the sum of their Christianity, and correctly defined it is a mixture of childishness and crime."

duh ... there was ... when the crowd brought before him a woman who was to be stoned to death, their Jesus reportedly suggested, "Let he among you without sin cast the first stone." I think that counts as being against a death penalty ... If the GOP crowd was alive back then they would have stoned her and Jesus ...

Jesus died 2,000 years ago.

Time to leave him be in peace, tear down all "places of worship" of every kind, every where, and declare an end to the childhood of the human race.

( fat chance . )

You misinterpreted Huckabee's statement about Jesus on the cross.

Nevertheless, I am reconsidering voting for him when I hear he voted for Bush in 2004, and even said God wanted him to say that. I quit a church here because the pastor said that. I never voted for Bush even though I am trying to be a follower of Jesus. I knew who Bush was in 2000. Lots of Christians were hoodwinked by the peacetime Bush of 2000. But in 2004, they should have awakened.

Therefore, I will probably shift my vote to Ron Paul. Maybe he said the same thing and I don't know about it, though. Maybe he said we should vote for Bush in 2004.

I'll have to go back to supporting Biden if that's it. Biden also believes in God (Catholic), although he is not pro-life, and I figure I should vote for someone pro-life (I voted for abortion many years ago and I am sorry). But Biden is not saying he himself would have a wife or daughter aborted--he is saying it is the law of the land.

Maybe I can't vote at all? Most of the Christians I know are passing up the vote and hoping for Jesus to come be king.

Capital punishment is against the laws of God!
Thou shalt not kill.
So much for the lie, in God we trust!

In a conversation with my 13 year-old about Huck's conversation on the phone with God, after she finished laughing, she said, "So God is Evil?" "Is that why Harry Potter is satanic? He's got all those powers because he's God's son or something?" (She knows those Evangelical types really hate HP)

I think the girl has a point. If God truly is TALKING with these guys, and is supportive of their bad behaviour, then he must surely be "evil". On the other hand, it is probably Satan and boy is he having a laugh!

Personally I think all these Evangelical / Bible thumping types are making it all up. Sadly there are so many fools buying into it hook, line and sinker.

This man, in my opinion, is irrelevant to the campaign. He's talking only to that rattle in his head. After Iowa, he'll retire back to Arkansas exactly where he should have stayed. He's taken up enough time on the national stage, and time is one thing this nation cannot afford to squander anymore.

In the Bible, the Jews practiced stoning women to death for committing adultry. Does this loon advocate that America bring that practice back?

Didn't Jesus also say, "Lord why have you forsaken me"?

The Bible is awash with contradictions. To learn more go to http://www.evilbible.com

Gifts of God: 1. Love 2. Family 3. Freedom

Why these three; yes indeed why?

Love
To have a world without the uplifting and life affirming nature of this thing called love leaves us where we are today.

Even critters are more tolerant and loving than we as a human species should be considering our relative nearness to the Creator of all.

The love I speak of is: Consider the world as a home and every human as family and be a benevolent steward towards all other living creatures and you will see the wish of the all encompassing God.

Family
Here is a step; a step towards the ultimate understanding that all are a family as a human species. With the goal of a family of nations, of all peoples!

We start with the family of blood move to a family of interests, neighbors, on to cities, states or whatever they are called in other places and as you can see; a family of all.

This growing towards this ultimate goal has been the thrust of some in history and yet greed, power, the subjection of others turned a quest into a tragedy.

Freedom
Safety in fear is not freedom! It is a false choice for you get a negative trying to masquerade as a positive and in the process tyranny appears.

Freedom is of choice, yes, choices with responsibilities; responsibilities to others and not just to the me. For with the choice of the me; is this not greed and tyranny?

There are many more words and ideals of the gifts of a creator and yet, for me, these three: Love, Family, Freedom must stand together to usher in a world livable for all.

"Thou Shall not Kill" actually refers to Murder not Capital Punishment; however, when an woman was about to be put to death for adultery, which was an acceptable punishment under the Law, Jesus defended granting the woman mercy and told her accusers that whoever of them had never sinned should "cast the first stone"(being stoned was the form of Capital Punishment for adultery). After they all walked away, Jesus told the woman to "go and sin no more", pardoning her.

Huckabee is no true follower of Christ if the point he got out of Jesus' crucifiction is that Jesus supports Capital Punishment. The ENTIRE point of his Death was mercy and forgiveness. He dies so the world lives. It was an act to pardon everyone of all of the their sins.

Huckabee argues that God will forgive you but you still have to pay a punishment here and now. Even though Jesus' own examples, such as the woman about to be executed for adultry, was to forgive them... and... and... what??... tell them to go and 'sin no more' or... as we call it... rehabilitation. Oh, look at that, Jesus was a bleeding heart liberal.
