Silena Davis had counted on an early tax refund to pay for getting her teeth fixed. Now, because Congress has dawdled all year on a tax bill, she and millions of other early filers could have to wait extra weeks for refunds that last year averaged $2,291.

The Internal Revenue Service is looking hard at delaying the start of its filing season, set to kick off on Jan. 14, if Congress fails to pass legislation in the next two weeks. At issue is how to handle what could be a dramatic increase in the number of people facing a higher alternative minimum tax.

And the Republicans are lying again, saying the DEMS want to increase taxes and they want to lower it. I am still looking for the Bush Tax Cut I never received. People really do believe they got a tax break. Idiots!
GOP wants more tax cuts for the corporations and no tax cut for us ergo Charlie Rangel's bill won't get passed. DEMS only want to reverse the tax cuts for the rich but that is not what Hannity is saying!!!

I know this sounds so simple to easy for the IRS to understand, and if you are getting $75,000 to $100,000 and are waiting to pay you dental work from your tax return let me just say you are living beyond your means,.
The point is has the IRS not heard of amended tax return, everyone can file their returns as usual and when they come to changing the ATM people can file and amened tax form, to simple you say.
The IRS are just pushing this bulls**t for this Administration just one more thing they can blame on the Democratic Congress who can't pass a bill because the President will veto it and they don't have enough of a majority in Congress to over ride this seriously incompendent Administrations.

This has happened over the past year because democrats don't want to speak the truth. They have in fact sent numerous bills to solve numerous issues, but Bush vetoes and the dems stay quiet. They need to get out there and do some PR. Hey, we sent Bush the bill, he is the one responsible for the problem at hand because he vetoed it!! Speak up people!

Blame the Republicans ...

Never in history has there been such a obstructionist Republican Senate...And now Bush will veto just about verything coming his way and blame it on the Democrats.

Of course the Mega Media have and will blame the Democrats when in reality it is the Republicans that are denying the will of the people.

The Amerikan Politburo has had too many years to fix this. They have not. Why can't they? Think about it.

Definition: Amerikan Politburo: Party of Property: A party consisting of two extreme wings: The Republicans and Democrats.

No one should get any money back. We need that money to help children who's parents aren't getting a tax refund.

Good thing a lot of people don't live in Mississippi. It can take up to six months to get a state income tax check back. The Mississippi tax commission doesn't know what a computer is used for. Course,it's the same with the DMV. It takes two months to get a title back from Jackson. When the IRS starts taking longer get the refund back,it means they get more intrest from our money. It helps to pay for the war.

The Democrat Congress is a total failure and it is going to screw the little guy for political reasons.

This is going to be a lot worse than you can or what has been alluded to in this article, because if the do-nothing Democrat Congress ever passes the laws that is just the start. Not mentioned in the article is the delay associated with software profession tax preparers have to use.

The code writers can not write the code or instructions until all the dust has settled and that will add several additional weeks.

So thanks to a do-nothing Democrat Congress the little guy that depends on a early return or the instant return (loan) to pay for Christmas gift for his kids is screwed. This will not affect the rich guy much at all. since we file on April 15th in most cases.

The article should be titled "How the Democrats Stole Christmas"

Is the IRS going to pay an extra 10 percent for late payments? IRS if I don't get my refund you will pay a penalty.

I am so old I remember when you filed honestly but could not afford to pay, the IRS charged you 6 percent interest.
Not a 6 percent penalty; actual 6 percent simple annual interest until you paid. Two months late you paid one percent.

Thatw as the old honest IRS. Rich and poor use to pay taxes too. I know it is hard to believe,
but I was there when taxes were fair.

Now more and more the IRS is about cheating the poor and working people. It is a dishonest agency that should be shut down.

Only two candidates support this honest stand.
Ron Paul and Mike Huckelberry.

Shut down the IRS.

If George Bush is any measure, Harvard is the LAST university one would elect to send their kid for HIGHER EDUMACATION! It's as clear as the nose on my face that George Bush did not author his dissertation for his Masters. The guy can't put two sentences together without a cue card. But, sure enough, Harvard awarded the IDIOT a Masters Degree in Business.

Harvard - now there's a goddamn joke.

Holy crapola batman!!!

Not that I was planning on filing too early - but this is one other thing that the Congress and President are screwing us middle-classers with.

Add onto that - the whole AMT fiasco and we are truely going to take it up the bunghole this year.

The AMT was never meant to hit those of us that work for wages - and Congress needs to do something about it PRONTO!

And - if they need to find new 'taxable' income - how about hitting income derived from Capital Gains at more than 15%? Make those living off their Grandparent's investments pay up at the rate that us peons that work for a living pay.
