Roves Advice To Obama

Financial Times:

Not that you have asked for advice, but here it is anyway: Iowa is your chance to best her. If you do not do it there, odds are you never will anywhere. You are way behind her in most national polls. The only way to change that is to beat her in Iowa so people around America take another look at you. You did a smart thing organising effectively in the early primary states. But you can take advantage of that only if you win Iowa and keep her from building an overwhelming sense of invincibility and inevitability.

The good news is you have again got "the buzz". Polls are looking better for you in Iowa and the other early states. Your press is improving, with your performance at the Iowa Jefferson-Jackson dinner a big help. Hillary Clinton has made unforced errors. But she is still the frontrunner and there are several things you need to do quickly to win.

This is simple. Rove thinks Obama will be easier for the GOP to beat in 2008 than Hillary.

This may be the first time I've ever agreed with the guy.

(I like Biden, BTW...)

hmm, interesting - let's see, perhaps Rove is being straight-forward...if Obama wins the Primary, and perhaps the General, the Republicans see in him something similar to George W...someone whose values are still too formative - someone who bounds about talking about hopes and dreams and has particulars of plans, but doesn't really have the experience, conviction, nor the judgment to implement them...they see someone who's already spouting Republican talking points http://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/11/11/why-barack-why//) can be molded into Joe Lieberman whom Obama already picked as his mentor. http://www.boston.com/news/local/connecticut/articles/2006/03/31/obama_rallies_state_democrats_throws_support_behind_lieberman/

And if Obama loses the General (which is very possible - because why would anyone right leaning actually think he can govern or has any foreign policy credibility?), a Republican goes back into office. It's a win-win either way.

I have a theory. Bizarro Karl has invaded our universe and done away with our Karl. In Bizarro Karl's universe the Dems wanted war. In his universe he really does like Obama.

One thing remains true of both Karls: the opposite of whatever they say is actually true.

What hasn't been mentioned in this thread so far is just how masterful a maneuver Rove pulls with this "memo"

He manages completely itemizes every perceived weakness in both candidates, while pitting them against one another.

Remember the despicable frat boys in Animal House-- the nerdy ones --- well, they should do a sequel to Animal House- where these nerd boys grew up to be the repubs running this administration to the ground...

Excerpt from Karl's diary: "I have successfully infiltrated the enemy's camp, and am feeding them false information to turn them against each other... if all goes well, they'll be at each other's throats and totally discredited by election time... at this rate, a Republican win in 2008 will be a given... HAIL SATAN".

Guys, I work for the RNC in L.A. and come here to check out all the latest Dem talking points. This helps us prepare talking points in local meetings and elections.

Karl has often said how much he enjoys riling up the Left. I was at a speech where he said his greatest goal in life is to be the most hated man to those who hate America. He works hard to earn your hatred here on HuffPo - believe me. And reading this Obama letter, this is probably something somebody suggested as a joke to him at dinner and the next day he thought "what the heck".

No doubt he is reading your comments here, very likely - and cracking up. He reads HuffPo and Kos as much as anybody.

And you just gave him exactly the results he was looking for. Look at how this little letter has set you all atwitter. At least he is able to laugh and have fun at his work without succumbing to the hatred expressed in your comments here. All the foaming at the mouth from you is exactly what he enjoys. And I gotta admit, many of us Repubs do as well.

Shades3 is right that this letter is similar to Repub support of Nader. But I have to disagree with the posters that say the letter is meant to psyche out Obama supporters. Make no mistake, Repubs very badly want Obama to take the primaries. That would be a dream come true.

The letter plays into the opinion that Hillary is entitled to the nomination and an unstoppable force. She has been holding her cards close so far, but as time goes on she will turn on the charm and win the nomination. This is what we Repubs do not want. So help us out you guys and get Barack into the fast lane!

See? Obama's already uniting the country; dethroning Queen Hillary the Inevitable is a bipartisan effort.

One thing's for sure, Rove hates Clinton. The question is: is this real help and he's trying to knock her out in the primaries? Or is he trying to sabotage the Obama campaign, so that Clinton is nominated and shot down in the election?

Personally, I think Karl's just bored with the Republicans, so he thought he'd comment on the Democrats. Would you blame him? The Republicans are boring.

P.S. Karl Rove = Adolf Eichmann

It's reverse-reverse psychology. Rove wants Hillary to win because she'll get creamed in the general, so he writes an article purporting to advise Obama on how to beat Hillary, in order to create the perception that he and Obama are somehow working together which then helps Hillary.

Brilliant strategy from the man who orchestrated the Republicans' stunning upset victory of both houses of Congress last year ... oh wait, whoops.
