Via Matt Yglesias and Steve Benen, we are directed to the Baltimore Sun and a recent press release from the Clinton campaign, which, in hitting back at Obama's remark that he had not been "planning to run for President for however number of years some of the other candidates have been planning for," goes so far as to dredge up writings of Obama's that date back to...well...seriously -- you better just read it for yourself.

In third grade, Senator Obama wrote an essay titled 'I Want To Be a President.' His third grade teacher: Fermina Katarina Sinaga "asked her class to write an essay titled 'My dream: What I want to be in the future.' Senator Obama wrote 'I want to be a President,' she said." [The Los Angeles Times, 3/15/07]

In kindergarten, Senator Obama wrote an essay titled 'I Want to Become President.' "Iis Darmawan, 63, Senator Obama's kindergarten teacher, remembers him as an exceptionally tall and curly haired child who quickly picked up the local language and had sharp math skills. He wrote an essay titled, 'I Want To Become President,' the teacher said." [AP, 1/25/07 ]

That's right. Essays written in the kindergarten and the third grade, which are sure to one day find a permanent home at the National Archives, are being cited by the Clinton campaign as proof that Obama's bloodthirsty presidential ambitions began as a plot hatched between naptime and snack. "If only the many, many people who want to vote for him in Iowa knew," reasons the Clinton campaign.

Mind you, this press release so ably proves its point with three preceding citations that it makes including the stuff Obama wrote back when he was eight years old seem...well -- totally nuthouse insane!

It's not clear what his elementary school essays say about the Obama presidency, but this information speaks volumes about the Clinton camp. Get in their way, and they will go to the ends of the earth to straight MESS YOU UP.

In 3rd grade, Edwards wanted to be Superman. I guess he's doomed now, too.

And when I was a kid, I wanted to drive a garbage truck. I guess that makes me worthless.

Let's drag through the lifelong record of library books checked out by ALL the candidates.

The characterization is fitting since she's dealing with a neophyte, infantile, ...a metaphor for his lack of national or international experience.

I can't imagine Hillary, who as an adult young college woman was a Young Republican...really wants a memory stroll through her school years.

Damn,... this is just a 'dumb' way to attack another politician.

Hell,... when I was in elementary school I wanted to do one of two things,... Play Center Field for the Cubs,... or drive the Garbage Truck.

Needless to say,... I ended up doing neither.

So what if a very young Obama wanted to be a President. Just shows he had more practical dreams than I did.

Simply appalling. Is HRC getting desperate?

Keep attacking because Clinton still appears to be unbeatable nationally.

I don't think I could even WRITE the word President in kindergarten-but I could have drawn you a picture! But I'm impressed that Obama could!

I'll support Hillary if she's the nominee, but the past few days have shown a weakness in her persona: when she doesn't ride above the criticism, smiling on "The View" or looking very statesmanlike in a crowd of supporters-- when she actually has to go on the attack she becomes shrill and unreasonable.

And remember how Bill was supposed to be a better advocate than Oprah? Then he said he was against the Iraq War from the beginning and we were reminded of the worst about the Clintons.

But Hillary herself has stumbled the past few days. Obama intending to run for President the day he entered the Senate? Maybe she wants to avoid that allusion, considering what everyone was thinking back in 2000: President Hillary Clinton, here she comes.

Obama intending to run for President the day he entered kindergarten? Actually, I'm impressed that he wrote such an essay. George Bush would have written "I Wants Too Fale At Maney Busynesses"-- while he was at Harvard Business School.

And how about "now the *fun* begins"? Sorry, but to most voters, slamming a candidate to make up ground in the polls isn't fun. And it seems to me the "attacks" by Edwards, Obama, and Your Average Democratic Voter concerning Hillary's record are very legitimate concerns.

I'll support Hillary if she wins the nomination, but if she keeps this up I can be less worried about having to vote for her.

Isn't this just the height of sad? Isn't "being president" what we were supposed to aspire to in kindergarten? Hillary, stop this, its just madness.

Talk about having a dream. Wow! That speaks highly of Obama. Why would Hillary attack that. I can see how she was and still is a Goldwater Girl. In 1964 you couldn't get me near those creeps. Has Hillary changed? Look at her real labor views on outsourcing of jobs through NAFTA and other such legislation. Which labor leaders do not want NAFTA overturned. We got her flier in the mail and she is going to eliminate the tax breaks for the corporations that outsource. Specifically, what does that mean? A time out for NAFTA. "OK children, time for your nap. Mamma Hillary has spoke through both sides of her mouth." Mamma She knows best - she ran four or five departments of the government while her husband was playing around She couldn't trust Bill but she "trusted Bush," once on Iraq and then on Iran - both lies.

Writing essays in K...Damn impressive! I agree with the others; we need someone with that level of natural intellligence. It means he's a quick learner, which will prove invauable in dealign with the Bush aftermath.
