Daschle Calls Rove's Iraq War Accusation "A Joke"

Former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle today called Karl Rove's accusation that Congress rushed President Bush into the Iraq war, "a joke."

During an appearance on the Bill Press Show, Daschle mocked the idea that it was he, not the Bush administration, who deliberately accelerated the time frame for Congress to vote on the Iraq war resolution in the fall of 2002.

"Well, I was called last week a couple of times and I literally thought it was a joke," he said. "I thought somebody was trying to pull my leg. I can't believe that anybody would make such an outrageous statement. And I was interested in [the fact] that several of the former Bush high-level people have now disputed it as well... But, he's saying it and I guess he's trying to sell some books."

Daschle told Press that Congress in fact tried to stall the rush to war. But the President dismissed pleas for caution.

"I reminded the President that his father waited until after the election for the 1991 war," Daschle recounted. "It was a wise thing to do and allowed him to build consensus around the world and de-politicize it here at home. I turned to him and said that he ought to do the same thing. I wish you'd consider that. He looked at the Vice President... They smirked a little bit and then looked at me and said... 'Can't do that.'"

Daschle is just one of a litany of figures - both Democrat and Republican - who have publicly rebuked the former White House strategist.

During an interview last week with Charlie Rose, Rove argued that Congress rushed the Iraq War resolution before the elections in fall of 2002 despite the President's concern that the vote would be politicized. Since then, several congressional Democrats as well as former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer and former White House chief of staff, Andrew Card, have criticized the man known as Bush's brain.

"Karl is very smart," said Card. "He's -- sometimes his brain gets ahead of his mouth. And sometimes his mouth gets ahead of his brain."

And indeed, there is a preponderance of evidence to suggest that Rove is attempting to revise history. In a September 24, 2002, address from the White House (subsequently titled "President Urges Congress to Pass Iraq Resolution Promptly"), the President began:

Thanks for coming. We just had a very productive Cabinet meeting. We realize there's little time left in -- before the Senate and the House goes home, but we're optimistic a lot can get done before now and then. Congress must act now to pass a resolution, which will hold Saddam Hussein to account for a decade of defiance.

I really have to fault Charlie Rose for having this asshole on. There are plenty--well, at least a few maybe--conservatives who still have some credibilty. Have them on, not Rove, who has been thoroughly discredited.

I know it will never happen, but it would be a great sign of America getting back on the correct ( I just cant bring myself to use the word 'right' anymore, its become such a horrible word now) path
if at least as soon as Bush is out of office, the US starts serious and actual legal action against the whole lot of them for their actions. But knowing the current crop of Demorats, and how presidents seem to be forgiven by the next, no doubt to hide their own crimes, I seriously doubt the US will ever become better. We are destine to just be variations on this shit river of failed policies. The wealthy will still control, the poor will still suffer and pay. And with the 2 being more defined with no 'middle road' now, the chance for actual constructive change is zip. none. nada. 0 .

What is wrong with the dems?!

WHY can't they just call Rove what he is - a LIAR?? Even when they have the upper hand, they're spineless!

Well, if you tell the lie often enough, SOMEBODY is bound to believe it until it becomes the truth.

Republicans are always calling Tokyo Rove "smart." He's not smart. He's manipulative and devious and partisan. But I don't think I've ever heard him say anything that made me think, "wow, he's smart." The Republican bar for "smart" is even lower than the Republican bar for "competent."

Karl Rove isn't even a good liar anymore. If Bush didn't want the war to be politicized, he would have waited until after the elections to push it.

Actually, I have to give this administration a lot of credit. The democrats may appoint women, blacks, gays and other traditionally sidelined groups to important positions within their administrations; but this administration has truly raised the bar for equal opportunity employment by hiring a plethora of hard-to-place pathological liars, oil-annointing religious zealots, and-unless I miss my guess, soon-to-be-revealed, kleptomaniacs.
This is not to mention the shotgun-toting, smirking, war-mongering, sociopaths.
I am gonna Miss these guys...

Look at the pictures of Karl Rove. I mean really study them. Now look at your own hand focusing on your pinky. But not your whole pinky, just the part that extends from the very last knuckle to the tip. That is the Karl Rove penis. And Karl has been fixated, I kid you not, for his entire life on compensating for that pitiable unit. That little digit helps explain the Iraq war debacle. That microscopic member informs about Karl's unrepentant willingness to trample everyones rights. To exhibit rampant corruption. It explains his slash and burn take no prisoners destructive impulses. Baby faced karl with feet so tiny it makes one wonder ow he can even stand.
The only question is why is anyone willing to pay attention to him? In the future when you see a picture of Karl or read a story about him, just look at your hand.

I am not reading Newsweek again until they ditch this lying turd blossom. He is not a pundit. He is not a blogger. He is a liar who skirts the law to undermine political figures with gossip and innuendo. He has greatly contributed to the mess this country finds itself in today.

OUT! OUT! No more Rove! OUT!

Rove will say and do anything to further his personal agenda. He has zero credibility and the only reason republicans don't turn on him is that they perceive him as still having influence, which his does not. Why anyone gives him a forum to perpetuate his bullshit is beyond me. The guy by all accounts should be in jail and everyone knows it.
