An explosive new U.S. intelligence report has concluded that Iran halted its nuclear weapons program in 2003. Read below for statements on the report from top Democrats:

Senator Harry Reid: "Today this nation's senior intelligence analysts concluded that Iran halted its nuclear weapons program in 2003, directly challenging some of this Administration's alarming rhetoric about the threat posed by Iran.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi: "While we should harbor no illusions about the intentions of some Iranian leaders, the new Iran NIE suggests there is time for a new policy toward Iran that deters it from restarting its nuclear program while also improving relations overall.

Senator Hillary Clinton: "The new declassified key judgments of the Iran NIE expose the latest effort by the Bush administration to distort intelligence to pursue its ideological ends.

Senator John Edwards: "The new National Intelligence Estimate shows that George Bush and Dick Cheney's rush to war with Iran is, in fact, a rush to war.

(don't worry huffpo, i know it was an honest mistake leaving him out)

"When taken in concert with the statements and actions of the Administration over the past year regarding Iran, the National Intelligence Estimate reveals a pattern of willful deceit directed at the U.S. Congress, the American people, and the rest of the world on the critical matters of war and peace. As I have been saying since the beginning " and the NIE has finally confirmed " there is no evidence of an Iranian nuclear weapons program.

"More than three months ago, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said Iran was cooperating with inspection procedures and demanded that the Bush Administration disclose any alleged evidence regarding such a program. None was provided. More than a month ago, Russian President Putin revealed findings by his own nation"s intelligence services and announced that there was no credible evidence of an Iranian nuclear weapons program.

"Yet, in the face of both sets of findings, this Administration continued its drumbeat for war. Just this past week, Undersecretary of State Nicholas Burns, with the NIE in his hands, was trying to arm-twist our NATO allies and the Republic of China into pressuring the U.N. Security Council to impose additional sanctions on Iran because of its alleged weapons program.

"I call on the Congress to launch an immediate investigation into what our intelligence agencies knew and when they knew it. I believe such an investigation will further build the case for the impeachment of both the President and the Vice President. The fact that the President recently raised the specter of a possible World War III in public comments regarding Iran"s alleged nuclear weapons program -- when he knew full well that Iran had no such program " should seriously be considered as a high crime. And, the fact that he and his Vice President have pursued plans for our military to drop 30,000-pound bunker buster bombs on Iranian nuclear research facilities constitutes a war crime."

And, how about the statement issued today by the Chairman of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Senator Biden, in reaction to the President's comments on Iran and the latest NIE.

THIS FROM KUCINICH'S WEBSITE:

"Today"s report by U.S. intelligence agencies that Iran " contrary to previous claims " ended its nuclear weapons program in 2003 "is proof positive that this pro-war administration has been manipulating intelligence and that the Presidential candidates" all-options-are-on-the-table posture with respect to Iran reflects their inability to recognize when they"re being duped -- again."

THAT'S MY CANDIDATE!

Impeachment needs to begin now!!!

Pelosi is probably not leaning towards impeachment as she may not wish to be in the spot of being President. And, she is trying to herd cats, so to speak, in the US House. They are not even closely aligned on many social issues, much less impeachment.

We can no longer wait for the 2008 elections to solve our woes. The US Congress has to begin action NOW, to use their Constitution right by bringing up articles of Impeachment against both Dick Cheney and George W. Bush for their lies regarding the war in Iraq, their avoidance of US and International laws (the latter not being an impeachable offense, but it is valid to mention), their wish to avoid all roads to peace and to only wish war to serve their own sordid needs, and for all the secretive meetings with non-elected businessmen on national policy for energy, etc, etc, etc. without following the laws.

Go get him, Congress...

#1 - If the intelligence community knew in JULY of this last year that the statements Bush and Cheney were making regarding Iran's Nuke program were suspect, at best, why would the Intel Comm not say a peep to Bush/Cheney?

#2 - How is Iran a threat to the world by seeking nuclear power under the discretion of the IAEA, yet Pakistan was never a threat through their refusal to cooperate with the IAEA?

#3 - Threatening to use military force against another nation that popses no direct threat of attack or as a response to an attack, IS A WAR CRIME! BushCo did it in 2002, how is now any different?

These liars will just keep on making up whatever nonsense best suits their purpose until they are impeached or otherwise removed from office. They are shameless and anti-democratic.

Democrats are pathetic for cooperating with these people on any level. They need to be removed for the good of the republic.

I'm not overly optimistic that this report will change Cheney's plans for an attack on Iran. And the demos statements notwithstanding, they would roll over in a heartbeat if push came to shove. If and when Cheney decides to attack, the demos are so terrified of being viewed as weak on defense that they will go along like the spineless sheep they've proven themselves to be. The truth is that Iraq had no WMD. The truth is that Iran is not pursuing nuclear weapons. (They have a right to, but that's another blog.) But the truth has not had any bearing on the actions of this rogue administration from the beginning. Their actions are driven by idealogical imperatives that have been created inside the tiny brains of neocons "thinkers". And like religion, idealogy is not troubled by reality. They see and hear only what they already believe to be true. Everything else is ignored or attacked. November 2008 cannot come soon enough.

I read that Bush and Cheney have known about this assessment for over a year, yet they continued to lie, to make their case for hitting Iran.

What is it going to take for Americans to see that these two monsters are impeached?

Huffsters take a deep breath and try to use facts.

Bush has never publicly stated that Iran had nukes. Bush stated that we must prevent them from obtaining them.

So tell me where is the lie?

Maybe Columbia University should invite the Iranian president back to New York, so he can explain his scurrilous denial of Iran's nuclear weapons pursuit. DICK Chaney won't stand for any more of his lies.
