DEARBORN -- In an exclusive interview with Between the Lines Newspaper, actor and activist Martin Sheen has announced he is endorsing New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson for president. Sheen, who is best known for his three-time Emmy Award-winning performance as President Jed Bartlett in NBC's "The West Wing," said he met Richardson while working on Sen. John Kerry's campaign for president in 2004.

"Oh yes, yes, yes," he said when asked if he had endorsed in the 2008 presidential campaign. "Bill Richardson."

"I have been supporting him, doing a fundraiser for him in Los Angeles, just some very low key stuff," Sheen said.

Richardson may be right on some of the issues, but quite frankly, he's a lousy candidate who is gaffe prone.

His performance at the Logo debate was unacceptably inept and his saying that God wants Iowa to go first insulted every American who resents the unfair and undeserved influence that Iowa and New Hampshire have in picking our President. His political tone deafness makes him unacceptable as either a Presidential or Vice-Presidential nominee. You need someone who would be good IN the office and good at WINNING the office. Richardson may have merits in the former, but his the turkey of the season in latter.

I look forward to his withdrawal from the race on Feb. 6 and wish him the best of luck and good fortune as New Mexico's able Governor.

Fortunately, I don't factor celebrity endorsements into my own voting choices, and while I really like Barbara Streisand, Oprah Winfrey and Martin Sheen, I really don't care who any of them supports for President.

There we go again, paying particular attention to whom a Hollywoodguy endorses. I don't think Martin Sheen's opinion is worth even a minor headline in HuffPo, but I suppose it beats out a description of Britney's birthday presents ... $30,000 worth of fur coats? How does Richardson stand on fashion fur? I don't expect an answer, but I'm asking. What the heck?

I think Richardson is probably the best of a VERY bad lot but he's still pro death penalty and anti-single payer health care and his position on Iraq just doesn't make sense.

Still, he deserves more attention that he has received thus far. He's the candidate that actually has "dirt under his fingernails" from actual service and not self service.

It WOULD be nice if an actual Democrat ran though.

Thanks out to Martin Sheen, I've also been supporting Governor Richardson with donations. He has the hands down MOST foreign policy experience, having negotiated with hostile foreign leaders successfully, even earning their respect. He has more 'direct' foreign policy experience than Hillary and Barack combined.

He is also one of the LEAST Wasington 'insiders' of all candidates as he's had little reason for lobbyists to approach him for many years, nor does he accept their campaign support.

I CAN vote for Richardson, who's not likely to continue ANY of the current administrations' policies - across the board, but I WILL NEVER vote for anyone that thinks OUR country's legalized form of bribery(lobbying) is just accepting money from "...real Americans".

That as staus quo as it gets.

This will be about as useful as Al Gore endorsing Howard Dean.
