You know all those viewers that CBS has lost since putting Katie Couric on Evening News? CBS didn't want 'em anyway!

That's how CBS chief Les Moonves answered a question about Couric's job performance during a Q&A session at the UBS Media & Communications Conference today.

"I think our product's as good as anyone's," Moonves said. "I am concerned that the average person who watches evening news is 61 years old. We tried to get that a bit younger. People flipped over to [ABC's] Charlie Gibson, but those are mostly 60-plus[-year-old] men. That's not a demographic we want."

As a 53-year-old who doesn't watch network news, I'm glad to say Moonves and I are on the same page. Maybe the CBS Evening News can pull some of the audience from "The View," if they do a few stories about how the Earth might be flat and how Christianity is the oldest religion.

Les Moonves is one of the worst media managers in the TV industry. He is up there with Steve Capus. Both of these twits fired Don Imus for something they could have fought off. But did it anyway.

Nobody watches CBS TV nor listen to WFAN in New York. And MSNBC might as well close their doors. Phil Griffin the idiot that forced Imus to talk to Bigot Al Sharpton is in charge of that trainwreck, under the supervisiion of Steve CapASS. What a mess.

CBS doesn't need a 60 plus asshole running the show.

Why is this news? No network really wants 50 years and older men or women watching; that's basic reality. The prime demographic has always been the mid to late 20 and to young forty somethings who make up the primary US consumer. Apart from Bob Dole viagra and Cielis ads, the 60 something group just isn't that big of a consumer, whetrher that's becaus ethey're either (a) already set for the majority of purchases, having accumulated everything they need already, (b) too thrifty, or (c) th etype of purchases they make if tehy are still consuming tend to be much larger, specilaized items than general advertising sells.

Advertsiers don't want the 60+ group, which means no network really does either. Realistically, if 60 minutes audience prior to Couric was 70% 60+ men, CBS could lose everyt single one of that 70%, and pick up just 5% of new younger viewers and, from an advertising rate perspective it would be a huge success.

Take what you can get - and it will be Les.

The kids are watching MTV and the women get their news from Oafrah.

If Moonves wants a teen demographic he better repackage Katie Couric as a videogame.
These kids don't watch the news.

Hey Les:
I guess you don't want me to watch "60 Minutes" either.
Or "Cold Case".
Or "How I Met Your Mother"
Or "The Big Bang Theory"
Or "2-and-a-Half Men"
Or "NCIS"
Or "Numb3rs"
Or any of the "CSI"'s
Or the rest of your schedule.

Okay, I won't - there's plenty of other options out there now.

If you don't want the evening news audience take the evening news off the air. They myth that these
parasites of the public airwaves perform a public service has been abandoned long ago.

Put on some phony "reality" show at Six O'Clock.

I got an idea. "The Les Moonves show"
You can go on every night and tell the viewers
who can watch CBS and who can't like Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager did with Studio 54.
The Velvet Rope Hour.

Speaking of 54th street the Studio 54 locations
is now the Roundabout Theater.

It used to be CBS property before DISCO.
Wiki:"From the 1950s to the mid-1970s, CBS used the location as a radio and TV stage that housed such shows as What's My Line?, The $64,000 Question, Password, To Tell the Truth, Beat the Clock, The Jack Benny Show, I've Got a Secret, Ted Mack's Original Amateur Hour, and Captain Kangaroo. The soap opera Love of Life was produced there until 1975."

Now that it is the Roundabout theater, you could put the cameras back in and show Three Penny Opera with Alam Coming and Cyndy Lauper. I don't think Bertolt Brecht is in the writers union.

But that would be quality, and CBS shows only crap.

Hey Les;
You lost Imus, and Howard Stern, making a mockery of your radio division. You also lost Rather after the embarrassing Nat'l Reserve fiasco. We got "Morning Jo" and Couric. Good Move. BUT BUT we got repetitive reruns of Bucknell (your alma-mater) beating Kansas in NCAA basketball. Good move!! Sumner!! please can Julie Chen's hubby before he bankrupts everything else he touches.

Good Move Les, good way to make your viewing audience even smaller.

What a maroon.
