Two key House lawmakers announced Monday that they were investigating the Federal Communications Commission, accusing its chairman of "possible abuse of power" and a failure to operate fairly and openly in handling proposed cable TV and media ownership regulations.

"Given several events and proceedings over the past year, I am rapidly losing confidence that the commission has been conducting its affairs in an appropriate manner," Rep. John D. Dingell (D-Mich.), chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee, wrote to FCC Chairman Kevin J. Martin.

Let's all send Mr. Martin an email over at The Ministry of Truth and tell him how proud we are of him becoming one more nail in the coffin. I bet his parents are proud.
Thanks to him we'll all be able to work longer hours because we won't ever have to look for another source of news beyond Fox " because there won't be one.

What we have here in the FCC is a plant from the Fascist revolution. When you control the media, you control the population and your destiny. Notice in authoritarian countries, the regime starts by shutting down or taking over TV and radio. The schools are next. Kevin Martin is their plant in the FCC. This weasel is supposed to serve the citizenry of the country, but in reality, he serves the Murdochs and the Mays of the country.

The issue of "dirty words" is a smoke screen. It's patented absurdity that many people buy into. Say "S-word", it's okay. Say "shit", it's a crime, even though they both mean the same thing. Janet Jackson's tit is an affront to America. Porn is bad but violence is okay because it sells beer.

By playing this game, they divert attention from their real objective which is to eliminate the possibility of a regular citizen from owning a broadcast outlet. After all, they might broadcast a truth or two about the industrial-military complex or real news from an unpopular war.

This little shit Martin has to go. He's a tool of his corporate masters, and once they realize that he's holding back on profits, they'll boot him out, and they will embrace "liberal" media on which tons and tons of money CAN be made. Not to mention a more harmonious SHOPPING scene. Or sum'thin.

Rightwing bastards want Rupert Murdoch to own everything. Isn't this the way that Hitler did it, control of everything into the hands of just a few?

Oops. I thought this was the story about Amedijadid. The pictures are beside each other on the page and its hard to tell the FCC chairman from the President of Iran. Hmm.

Micheal Copps should be appointed head of FCC for life.
He has always shown he has the best interests of the American people.

This boy is DOA! They all believe that they will be going to the "Promised Land" after the Bush-Cheney takeover...But, I've got news! All the various scenarios they have imagined happening to them "if they got caught" will eventually come to pass. They don't really appreciate the magnitude of their actions.

They will learn, soon. Bush and Cheney couldn't care less...Cheney's near death, Bush has Paraguay...they think they're all in the clear.

Right, guys...Dream on!

This little twerp, whose wife played a role in the Plame affair as a loyal staffer for DICK Cheney, is typical of the criminal gang appointed by our hood-ornament-in-chief. It's a sad development that Reps. Dingell and Stupack have chosen this example of administration abuse as the subject of their "heroic" stand when there are much bigger fish to fry for abuse of power. What about abuse of the US Constitution they've all sworn to protect and defend?

Is this the same FCC chairman who tried to get rid of 'Net neutrality? Or was that Colin Powell's son?

It's about time, make it fast and put him away then start on the others. They just think they are all powerful.
Off point: I really believe that Presidents should have a mental exam every year or sooner, and with this President it is far over due. Someone demand he take a mental health exam he is going to start another war.

Who the F--k gave these three repugs that much power to giveaway the whole store? They have to be slapped down to start thinking like any good citizen, not like the Supreme court. We kicked ass with the young fat Powell, now this Kevin guy needs to be showen the door, better yet into the airways to meet his maker.

Kudos to Dingell. Clearly, the media is in need of serious reform. Media consolidation has done great damage to our democracy and the free flow of information. I would love to break up these media monopolies and restore a diverse and independent media framework where a single company is not allowed to control multiple news or media technologies within a given market i.e. newspaper, radio, tv. Whether this is Dingell's intention or not, I don't know...but it should be.
