"Crash" Director Haggis Sues Producer For $5 Million
Paul Haggis and Bobby Moresco have sued Bob Yari Prods., claiming they are owed $4.7 million in contingent compensation for their role as producers of the Oscar-winning "Crash." According to the complaint, filed last week in Los Angeles Superior Court, Haggis, who also served as writer and director on the film, and Moresco, who also had a screenplay credit, entered into a series of agreements under which they were entitled to receive a three-tiered contingent compensation depending on the picture's success.
The complaint alleges that Yari agreed to finance the picture with a budget not to exceed $7.5 million. An August audit, according to the suit, revealed bogus charges that were improperly included by Yari against adjusted gross profits. The suit seeks money damages, imposition of a constructive trust and an accounting and disgorgement.
