Obama Cashing In On Clinton Criticism

Senator Barack Obama is capitalizing on his political opponent's attacks by using them as a cash cow. In an email yesterday and today to his supporters, the Illinois Democrat asked for donations to help respond to criticisms lobbed his way by primary opponent Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY.

"I want to be able to say that 10,000 people responded with me in the first 48 hours," the email read. "Respond now with your donation of $25, and show our opponents that this kind of negativity will only make us stronger."

By 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon the Obama campaign had passed its stated goal; 10,327 people had signed up to the "rapid response" promo, though the campaign declined to estimate the amount contributed.

"Several weeks ago, Senator Clinton said she wasn't going to attack fellow Democrats," Ben Labolt, an Obama spokesman told the Huffington Post, "but as the polls have shifted, that has changed. While Senator Clinton said attacking other Democrats is the 'fun part' of the campaign, we think this campaign must be centered around uniting the country and solving people's problems. As we said at the outset, we plan to respond forcefully with the truth when we are attacked."

As Arianna noted way back in August, presidential campaigns are making a habit out of raising money by being insulted.

During the past week, Clinton has accused Obama of, among other things, being inexperienced in foreign affairs and overly-ambitious politically. The attacks, however, ventured towards the absurd when the Clinton campaign accused Obama of being a careerist by citing, among other things, a report written by his kindergarten teacher saying that Obama wanted to be president. Two days after that attack was leveled, Mark Penn, Clinton's chief strategist, said the early schooling reference was meant to be a joke.

On Tuesday morning, the sides switched when Clinton's campaign manager, Patti Sollis Doyle sent out an email to the Senator's supporters, highlighting what she said were dirty tricks by the Obama campaign.

"In both Iowa and New Hampshire, we have heard that Obama staffers are berating Hillary supporters on the phone with negative attacks against her," Doyle wrote.

The back-and-forth reflects what political observers say is a growing acrimony between the candidates. Indeed, as the primary election approaches and the race tightens, the campaign has grown increasingly nasty. As reporter David Corn highlighted in a recent blog post, members of Clinton's campaign have come to "despise" Obama for being, what they deem to be, a "dishonest poser."

"They truly believe it," Corn writes. "And other Democrats in Washington report encountering the same when speaking with Clinton campaign people. "They really, really hate Obama," one Democratic operative unaffiliated with any campaign, tells me. "They can't stand him. They talk about him as if he's worse than Bush." What do they hate about him? After all, there aren't a lot of deep policy differences between the two, and he hasn't gone for the jugular during the campaign. "It's his presumptuousness," this operative says. "That he thinks he can deny her the nomination. Who is he to try to do that?" You mean, he's, uh, uppity? "Yes." A senior House Democratic aide notes, "The Clinton people are going nuts in how much they hate him. But the problem is their narrative has gone beyond the plausible.""

This is the disgusting, racist, xenophobic e-mail about Barack Obama that was sent by a Clinton supporter and County Chair Judy Rose: http://tpmelectioncentral.com/2007/12/heres_the_obama_smearmail_sent_out_by_the_county_chair_volunteering_for_hillary.php

That e-mail the Clinton supporter, was disproven last year on this site: http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/muslim.asp

He is smarter than she. Her smarts are limited and constrained, due to her propensity to not answer questions, and her triangulations. More and more her campaign resort to smearing and of coure the comments of her husband Bill, without whom, she would have never been in the place she is now in. It makes her look desperate and I believe she, who seems to have thought hersel the queen, has now been knocke down due to the campaign of a person that is smarter and exudes more confidence than her desperation at this point.

She blew it and is digging her heels in, furthering the notion that she is desperate. Bill blew it for her also.

ANOTHER CONVERSATION BETWEEN HILLARY & BILL:

Hillary: Look, Obama is surging in Iowa. I've got to stop him.

Bill: How?

Hillary: Well, planting questions to make me look sharper than I am didn't work, so I think I might go back to Obama's days in Kindergarten. Tell voters about the essays he wrote.

Bill: Bad idea.

Hillary: No!! Its a freakin' good idea! Because if he wrote a paper opposing Bert and Ernie, or an essay scheming to steal Cookie Monster's cookies, then it will hurt him. Look, if he wrote a paper criticizing Big Bird, that could seriously hurt him with the Poultry industry.

Bill: Huh?

Hillary: Yes! We already have some gay supporters on The Huffington Post consistently bringing up the McClurkin appearance for Obama but refusing to bring up my ties with homophobes. That's good. One notorious gay poster just attacks me for Kyl-Lieberman or other bills. This poster refuses to attack me for my homophobic ties, but he always zeros in on Obama. That kind of hypocrisy can only work in my favor!

Bill: Huh?

Hillary: And we have some people-

Bill: Hold up! That won't be enough Hillary.

Hillary: Why not?

Bill: Accordking to The Huffington Post, one of our prominent supporters in IOWA passed along the vile, disgusting, false, sophomoric, xenophobic smear emails that claim Obama is a muslim(http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2007/12/05/clinton-camp-admits-iowa-_n_75459.html). In fact, on the Huffington right now, there is one poster who constantly and immaturely refers to Obama as "Barack Hussein". This is all cut from the same cloth. And it is xenophobic and racist. Obama's middle name is "arabic" not "muslim". There are muslims named Bill and Hillary and there are christians named Hussein and Mohammed. In fact, there is a link that pretty much disproves this "Obama is a muslim" crap. Here it is right here: http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/muslim.asp

Hillary: So what are you telling me?

Bill: You're in big trouble! I told you last year that Obama was unstoppable. He's the freakin' man!

Sounds like the Hill camp is annoyed that Obama is standing up to her, looking her in the eye and challenging her. His intelligence, suaveness and confidence is threatning and, I'm sure, irritating to her and her 'invincibility'. She's inadvertently admitting that he is dangerous - in a good way, like, 'Damn, this man is smart!' I have a feeling she would feel more at ease if he approached her with lowered eyes and bowed head. Ha!

Obama '08!

Perhaps it should be noted that NOT ONE SINGLE PRESIDENTAL CANDIDATE CURRENTLY SERVING IN THE US SENATE, meaning Dodd, Clinton, Obama, Biden, or McCain, VOTED on the Peruvian trade deal which passed the Senate yesterday, quietly and without fanfare, by a vote of 77 to 18.
The first fast-tracked trade deal to come before this Congress (which was elected in part because of their stated opposition to just such legislation) had already passed the House 285 to 132.
The measure that has been opposed by such diverse groups as the National Family Farm Coalition and the Teamsters has received virtually no play in the media, or attention at debates.
While we are debating how any of these candidates would act as President, perhaps we should take a few moments and reflect on how they act as Senators: avoid unpopular issues and keep a low profile.

Geewhiz!
Based on the overwhelming number of creepy, imbecilic, comments to this post, any rational thinker may conclude that there must be a full-moon. Won't even have to look at the sky or check the almanac (or other source).

Who in the world would want Dick Cheney's cousin for a president : ( : ( ???
WAKE UP PEOPLE! Don't we have enough problems today without taking on the responsibility of raising a three year freshman who would assume to be president? Besides just look at his star player -OPRAH, who hasn't voted in a presidential election since the beginning of time. Is this what it is all about?
We are in great need of leadership after 7 (8) years of Bush's catastrophic failures. No time for on the job traing for the freshman Obama. It's time for a real winner--GO HILLARY!

For months Obama has criticized Senator Clinton for everything and anything and now when she pushes back he"s sooooo offended and needs a quarter of a million to fight back on these unfair and unjust (in his mind only) attacks. Stop blaming Senator Clinton for your candidate"s lack of popular appeal.
And to the trolls out there, yes recent polls showed a drop in Senator Clinton"s poll numbers but those numbers DID NOT GO TO Obama! Obama's numbers are essentially unchanged (a change of one or two points are not significant, they are in the margin of error) So once again, stop blaming Senator Clinton for your candidate"s lack of popular appeal.
