Sherri Shepherd

For whatever reason, the ladies on "The View" were discussing ancient Greek philosopher Epicurus this morning. Naturally, talk soon migrated to the topic of religion, and Sherri "I don't know if the world is flat" Shepherd came out to play. More specifically, to spew ignorance and a complete lack of understanding of basic world history! Discussing whether Christians were around during Epicurus' time (Epicurus lived from 341-270 B.C.), Sherri chimed in, "[The Greeks] had Christians 'cause they threw them to the lions."

When Whoopi tried to cautiously navigate her through the timeline of basic world events, saying, "I think this might predate that," Sherri responded, "I don't think anything predated Christians." Joy's attempt to explain the Greek-Roman-Christian chronology was futile, as Sherri insisted, "Jesus came first before them." Sherri's argument was all the more powerful due to her convincing "use your finger to write on the table" trick, but she can't fight the facts. Perhaps if Barbara were on today she would have explained THAT WHOLE B.C. THING (you know, as in, Before Christ).

I'm not at all sure that many churches (except maybe the Unitarians) are teaching the HISTORY and timelines of various religions, but somewhere along the line, Ms. Shepherd should have learned not to be so adamant about her beliefs. To claim her "headstuff" as history and to be so wrong about so many things probably allows her to serve as the resident diwit. If and when she is corrected, there might be some educational aspect IF those who were as wrong as she is are actually LISTENING.

Interesting how so many here can judge all Christians/blacks/women -- whomever -- on the basis of this one woman's offhand remarks.

While simultaneously ignoring the fact that Whoopi is likewise all of these things, but would most likely never make the same kind of comment.

Since when do we let retards have a voice? Babs, you are a stupid gash. You need to take Sherri and Hasselbeck with you to the nursing home.

Sherri is a moron but what do you expect from Baba Wawa? What a hole. I hope you all know that Babs dated both John Warner and ROY COHN. ROY COHN!!!!!!! Roy Cohn was the most disgusting self-loathing chunk of Nazi excrement to exist on the planet. I lost all respect for her after that. http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9C0CE2D71531F936A15750C0A966958260

Barbara is nearly 80. Somebody put that dried up Republicker gash to bed. Whoopi and Joy should leave and start their own show. I would watch that.

I have met maybe a handful of Christians who could tell me who the emperor of Rome was when Christ was executed, or which King Herod was the King of Judea, or what the social/political situation was that led to Christ's execution... Most of them couldn't find Israel on a map.

But don't bother them with facts when they come knocking... its their way or you are going to hell.

Whatever, that's nice, get off my porch.

Spirituality is critical, religion is a farcical control system. Tell the laity that they can't access God and the "spirit world" except through the Church. The laity aren't supposed to access God, that would be magic or heretical or something. They are supposed to do what the priests tell them as the Word is passed down from one who is Holier than the rest like a Pope...
Its all a control system and religion is a primary source of bloodletting in this world as they argue amongst themselves about who God favors... what a load of nonsense. Dangerous nonsense.
In my opinion, nobody has the right to promote what they believe and they had better keep it out of the political environment. The Evangelists and the Jews and the Catholics and the Baptists, etc all have political agendas supported by well monied lobbies and that is just wrong.
Believe what you want but leave me alone. I have that right and you have no business telling me how to live based on your beliefs. I don't need to deal with your icons, your bs when I go out of my home...
We have politicians that believe in Angels and Demons but don't want to be seen as crazy for believing in Aliens and UFOs... believe me, they are less crazy for believing in Aliens than they are for believing in Holy Ghosts, Devils and Angels and Demons and tortured Gods...
Chick is an ignorant dumbass and isn't even entitled to be a Christian. Just a mindless believer who doesn't know what she believes.

Sherri Shepherd seems like such a likeable person, but does she really deserve a spot on the View that essentially allows her to influence the opinions of some millions of ordinary Americans on a daily basis. It's as if they had decided that 'balance' and political correctness required them to reserve a seat for someone - there's no nice way of saying it - either totally ignorant, or just not very bright. But are these qualities that, even if momentarily entertaining, really need reinforcing or honoring as positive viewpoints rather than being dubbed unfortunate, and if possible, remedied as quickly as possible.

Of course, approaching the mix from that angle, it's hard not to take the next step and ask whether certain strains of conservatism, and hyper-religiosity might not also be characteristics that might benefit from challenge and education rather than indulgence and pandering.

And then, of course, doesn't that get us to the basic point that, yes, there are situations in which a lack of solid facts or past experience make it reasonable to initially consider all shades of opinion. However, over time, with the accumulation of a body of evidence primarily on one side of the issue or the other, a discussion that chooses to blatantly ignore such a record ceases to credible or rational. [Incidentally, the idea that the news is likely to be what 'you decide', in the presence of fact or logic to the contrary, is a fantasy that should have long since been dismissed, along with the supposed intellectual integrity of all who promote it.]

Well, the cat's out of the bag...She's got to be a Repug when she spouts such stupidity. One thing, though, I think I'll tune in to the View now and then...out of a kind of morbid fascination.

I was flipping channels one morning and caught part of the 'world is flat' discussion. Barbara Walters was there and NONE of these women would actually come out and commit to the world being round during the few minutes I watched. I can't stand to watch this harpie fest more than a couple of minutes at a time.
The Catholic Church finally gave in after 400 or so years and admitted it was wrong about this but these women wouldn't. It appeared to me that they were more afraid of ABC freaking out because of viewer response than anything else. Like the producer hadn't ok'd them to say the world was round so they wouldn't admit to it.
The networks lie to us every day about the war, they broadcast propaganda from sponsors, the military, and the White House and pass it off as news, so of course they're afraid of christian kooks with claims like the Grand Canyon is only 6 thousand years old (because that's when God created the earth)and there was nothing there before Jesus.
This is 21st Century America we're talking about, not 16th Century Plymouth Rock. Utterly amazing that the conservatives and their media have managed to dupe people this badly.
