Sherri Shepherd

For whatever reason, the ladies on "The View" were discussing ancient Greek philosopher Epicurus this morning. Naturally, talk soon migrated to the topic of religion, and Sherri "I don't know if the world is flat" Shepherd came out to play. More specifically, to spew ignorance and a complete lack of understanding of basic world history! Discussing whether Christians were around during Epicurus' time (Epicurus lived from 341-270 B.C.), Sherri chimed in, "[The Greeks] had Christians 'cause they threw them to the lions."

When Whoopi tried to cautiously navigate her through the timeline of basic world events, saying, "I think this might predate that," Sherri responded, "I don't think anything predated Christians." Joy's attempt to explain the Greek-Roman-Christian chronology was futile, as Sherri insisted, "Jesus came first before them." Sherri's argument was all the more powerful due to her convincing "use your finger to write on the table" trick, but she can't fight the facts. Perhaps if Barbara were on today she would have explained THAT WHOLE B.C. THING (you know, as in, Before Christ).

Here's the bright side, and there really *is* one:
First, there is a show on American television where they might discuss relatively obscure ancient Greek philosophers. Second, this is a teachable moment. There are apparently a lot of people around who have been failed by American education, and this is a chance for them to learn the answers to questions they might not have even thought of asking. Although I must say, Sherri's reaction to being (gently) corrected isn't encouraging.

The whole Jesus is God thing is confusing. You have to cut some slack to the Christians.

God came first, then he made Jesus(AKA Emanuel, AKA Adam), then he made Evelyn (AKA Mary Matalin, a Republican), then he made some drinks and the procreating began.

One day he was so fed up with his project that he made lions - who ate the Christians who rode dinosaurs.

Can some tell me what barometer was used to hire his person? There is a rumour that Twiggy's waist size was the IQ requirement

Despite my opinion that the gal is dumber than a box of rocks, I will say that she may have been speaking philosophically, as in "Jesus, being the son of God, who is infinite, predates all."

If America could offer all of its kids a decent education, she might have been capable of articulating that idea on TV.

But of course, she is still wrong, because there is no god.

What's stunning is that there are 1000-ish posts about someone on a daytime fluff teevee show that 99% claim not to watch, or would never admit to watching.

And, what's funny is that just 2% have spelled her name correctly - first or last. I suppose that's not necessarily attributable to lack of intelligence, but it IS lazy.

Sorry, what's she being criticized for again ?

Sherri is clearly a YEC (Young Earth Creationist) and as such thinks the world is approximately 6000 years old.

Still, she should brush up on her history and look up Sumerians, Egyptians, Babylonians, Assyrians, Chinese, Phoenicians, etc. (and those are only some of the better known civilizations) They all fit the YEC timeframe, had different kinds of polytheistic religions and pre-dated the Greeks and Romans... Wouldn't hurt others either.

There is, however, plenty of guilt to go around. One big problem is the school system: American history is taught almost exclusively in High Schools all across the nation. In some places world history is left to college level education. My former H.S. had one semester of world history. One semester for over 6000 years as opposed to basically 12 years of US history. That is bound to wreak havoc on your level of knowledge and twist your world view.

Yes, unbelievable ignorance and yet she makes a huge pile of money to spit out this idiocies on almost a daily basis :-(

This tells enough about the level of the TV programme.

This is typical of so many religious people. They are more than happy to "Let go. Let God" as they say. It astounds me that there are so many religious people who miss the obvious. As a matter of fact, there is one that they miss big time.

The gift of Intellect. Whatever your concept of God, we have the ability to observe and learn, extrapolate, develop and produce all to make the world a better place for future generations. How sad that most religion in the world demands that you deny your intellect.

That explains more than anything why a moron like Sherri Shepherd gets to be on TV. Some people actually think that this kind of thinking is charming.

It's not. It's stupid. Just plain stupid. But it doesn't end there.

Just a week or two ago, Bill O' Reilly thought that Jesus was here 5000 years ago.

We're surrounded by idiots!!!

It does no good to protest the View. I begged them not to choose Sheri as a co-host but they did. I suggest that someone give her a science book and a history book and try to get some knowledge into her. "God" help Jeffrey. He has got a horror show of a life ahead of him.
BTW: when correcting someone's grammar be sure it isn't irony. The trouble is, no one looks smart quoting W, especially if people don't realize that is what you are doing.

Danny Shea,

Where is your video of Kerry Pickler, on Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader, declaring that she thought Europe was a country and she had never heard of Budapest???????

Question: Budapest is the capital of what country in Europe?

Answer: Budapest? I've never heard of the word Budapest.

(Pause. Stammer. Stammer. Pause.)

Answer: I thought Europe was a country.

Why single-out Sherri Shepherd? She is not the only not-so-smart celebrity out there. When you write the article, please also give her a moniker as well like, Kelli 'I thought Europe was a country' Pickler.....

This is just embarrassing at this point. I wonder if Ms Sheppard is even capable of realizing how stupid she makes herself look. As a black woman, I am embarrassed by her glorifying in ignorance!

Now, she wraps her ignorance up in religious language and this is supposed to make it OK. It is simply inexcusable, however, for someone living in the 21st century West to NOT know that the Earth is round. It is inexcusable for someone who calls themselves a Christian to NOT understand anything about the history of her own religion.

Cheers

Jesus predated the Greeks and Romans? The level of stupidity is astounding. And she doesn't want it to get into a religious thing? How about it gets into a history thing? How does an uneducated moron like this make it to TV?
