Hollywood Barack

It seems much of young Hollywood has backed a candidate by putting their names on invite for a Barack Obama event next week.

Jessica Biel, Ryan Reynolds, Olivia Wilde, Will.I.Am, Scarlett Johansson, Kate Walsh, Anthony Kiedis, Jennifer Espisito, Taye Diggs and more are expected next Monday at a fundraiser concert for Obama. The Goo Goo Dolls are performing at the LA event.

No word if Obama's greatest celebrity backer, Oprah, will be in attendance.

Wow - support from an age group that doesn't vote - rock on.

How sad and stupid the young are. Willing to throw their support behind a man with little to no experience again (George W still retains the title despite his 8 years in office). How can young people be so irresponsible today - after all they should have learned in school and college? I'm utterly amazed and certainly won't throw my support behind their box office entries knowing how stupid they are for supporting Barack "Osama" (yes, that is his legal middle name and the GOP is going to run rampant against the Democrats for it as we near the election) Obama.

People can and will be stupid. Look at all the fools who backed George Bush who robbed our country, made us look like fools around the world, sent our dollar down the gutter while his opponent, who won the popular vote, garnered an Oscar and Pulitzer Prize.

Yes, young people are stupid today.

I was young ... once ... a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away. And once I would have picked the young and handsome, obviously intelligent, and particularly well-spoken Barack Obama as my candidate. But I'm older now, oh, so very old ... and experience speaks volumes. An idiotic Supreme Court placed GWBush in the White House ... and an even more idiotic electorate kept him in the White House ... and we're gonna need someone with smarts and connections and experience to clean up his mess. It's gonna have to be a Democrat, because Republicans don't see there is a problem ... and I think that Democrat is gonna have to have some age on him or her ... a thick rind to deflect the slings and arrows of outrageous neo-conservatism ... and I don't see Senator Obama as quite crusty enough to do the job. I could be wrong. Oprah and the Hollywood Neophytes could be right. Let us pray.

The mindlessness continues. Shallow starlets, supporting a shallow candidate. Surface, surface, surface. The blind leading the one eyed.

i know that in this celebrity obsessed world in which we live, not one of you may believe me, but open your mind to this, please...

Have you seen the hundreds of thousands of people who turn out to meet the candidates? If you could speak to the man or woman who may help lead us out of the hell that Bush has created, wouldn't you? Ask a question? Hang out?

Sometimes you just want to meet Barack.

Taye Diggs best acting was having his face sliced off by Christian Bale in Equilibrium.

Am I missing something here? They are coming out to support a candidate that they believe in. No their endorsements are not more important than anyone elses, but them being celebrities should not discredit them either. Some of you are being totally unfair. If they support Barack, that's their business. There are celebrities who care about shit, too.

Isn't Ryan Reynolds a Canadian?

If there was a difference between the CFR members Bush and Clinton this would be significant.

I have to somewhat agree here. The celebrity endorsements right now are not as strong as they once were. I would have them speak out regarding specific issues, and encouraging people to vote, but having them back a specific candidate at this time is not the best move.

His campaign needs to shut this mess down now. Celebrity support is commonly used in slur campaigns to alienate middle America and make candidates seem morally corrupt and bereft of values. Oprah is one thing and if these celebs were out there simply campaigning to get young people to register to vote that would be also be different, but this support and that of other actors could likely be used against Obama if he makes it to the general.

This kind of thing could also seriously hurt him in the early primaries b/c Iowa and New Hampshire are more conservative and if he loses the gains he's made in those states, it's all over. The Kerry campaign was none to happy when Maddonna and Michael Moore were out singing his praises and, sure enough, Hollywood's support was used against him.

It doesn't even matter that celebs have cache with young voters b/c even when huge efforts are made to combat voter apathy in this demographic, the turnout is generally too low to make the youth vote a deciding factor in an election--eg 2004's Vote or Die campaign.
