Hollywood Barack

It seems much of young Hollywood has backed a candidate by putting their names on invite for a Barack Obama event next week.

Jessica Biel, Ryan Reynolds, Olivia Wilde, Will.I.Am, Scarlett Johansson, Kate Walsh, Anthony Kiedis, Jennifer Espisito, Taye Diggs and more are expected next Monday at a fundraiser concert for Obama. The Goo Goo Dolls are performing at the LA event.

No word if Obama's greatest celebrity backer, Oprah, will be in attendance.

Didn't we get a much more generic *rock the vote* kind of message in the past?

I'm not sure if these celebs are so much *coming out and endorsing* or if the media is just reporting every little tit for tat as move closer to the primaries.

My ears used to perk up every once in a while when the news covered who certain celebs were excited about, like last time round Madge was favoring Wesley Clarke, but it was more like an "Oh, that's interesting" kind of observation than anything else.

It's all mighty silly at this point, I hope that all these folks continue to have fundraisers and endorse whomever comes out of the primary process as the nominee.

What is this - a media-feed popularity contest? I guess there is no getting fully around that. What are the basic criteria? Maybe these for starters ...

Government Experience - Clinton, Biden, Edwards, Kucinich (all pretty much even)

Foreign Relations - Biden, Clinton

Guts - Kucinich, Edwards, Obama, Biden

It looks like I have to favor: Biden, Edwards and Kucinich, but will I have a chance?

I think I would be more comfortable with celebrity endorsements after the primaries.
At this point, rather than coming out for the individuals, how about coming out about the issues? Let's have discussions about the issues, before we choose the candidates.

Yes, it does come off as arragance for the "regular folk" but actors continue to get out there every term. I come from a union family thats liberal but I too, don't think it does the people running any good endorsing them.

I don't trust Hillary. Obama or Edwards. I think I lead more towards Edwards though. He has more interest in the average working person and their problems.

Obama.... Not so much.

Endorsements are stupid. Speaking four simple words does not and should not change anybody's opinion of a candidate.

Performing at campaign events is quite different. Livening up the event and firing up the crowd with all the pep and excitement? That's just awesome. People like going to rallies with Obama alone, but when you get all those rock stars together, it just blows a crowd away.

Not good for Obama.

Barack, go for the smartest voters, not the dumbest!

Going for the youth vote is not a bad idea.

If one of these bubble-gummers could think for themselves, they'd be supporting Biden who is the best qualified to lead this country. But glitz and glamour is all they know and Obama is the flavor of the month. Sad.

That's funny. Not too long ago if you were an actor who actually cared about issues you were crucified (remember George Clooney)? These new people better hope that this won't destroy their careers.

OK is it just me or is that photo just ridiculously pretentious...was this event promoted without Sen. Obama's review and approval or did he actually want to look like a self-important fairy prince or that guy from the Xanadu movie?

For his on-stage entrance, is he going to roller skate out of the poster with Olivia Newton John?

I'm a democrat, but am generally embarrassed by celebrity endorsements. Sean Penn, Barbara Streisand, and the lot probably do more harm then good. I mean I dig the hell out of the Rolling Stones but I wouldn't vote for someone because they endorsed him (though the Stones would never go in for that kind of stuff, anyway).
