You leave the Bush White House and you come back to Austin? You couldn't find someplace a little more different?

After being in Austin for a few days, it quickly reminded [my wife and me] of everything we loved about the city. I will say, though, that my experience personally in Washington was better than I anticipated.

The revisionism is breathtakingly obvious. Bartlet says of the "Mission Accomplished" speech-

"Mission Accomplished" was the motto of the aircraft carrier that had just spent ten months in a war zone both in Afghanistan and Iraq, and we wanted to celebrate what they had done. But it left a wrong impression symbolically with the American people that our work was done in Iraq, and obviously that wasn"t the case.

This is ignoring the fact that in his speech that day, Bush said that the American forces in Iraq and their allies had "prevailed".

DannyBoy has the opposite of a stiff upper lip. When he speaks, it quivers like a bunny's while the jaw just sits motionless, perhaps to keep the fecal matter from trickling out.

What's up, Doc?

It's amazing how much the Bush Administration's veterans openly admit to using PT Barnum's playbook. Cufflinks for the religious right, and access to the Prez for bloggers so they can for regurgitate his nonsense for free.

Republicans listen to Rush, them Bill 'O, then Hannity. The "talking points" are repeated and re-enforced in their little pea brains. Then the talking points are regurgitated.

The right-wing think tanks are funded by wealthy right-wingers to hire the pundits and the right controls the propaganda apparatus.

The speech writers create the slogans which pass for political analysis.

Dan Bartlett was a tool. He had to right image to mouth the Bush agenda.

The "true believers" and followers lockstep with the fascists. The "echo chamber" of the mainstream media reinforces their beliefs.

Going to Sunday school also reinforces their beliefs.

The best president is one who can deliver the lines like an actor. Ronald Reagan was one of those. He confessed that he didn't understand Reaganomics. Maybe he wasn't so stupid after all. Reaganomics only destroys the middle class.

Dan Bartlett has always seemed to me like a mostly thoughtful and intelligent person who, for some reason, got in his head it was a good idea to help destroy america.

He lacks the nasty reptilian vibe of Bush, Cheney, Condi, and Rove.

Neocons get training in clicking their heals and chanting the jingoistic slogan of the day. So what else did you expect? Critical thought?!

I think that "freedom of speech" coupled with "freedom of the press" truly frightens these people. But as it was once said, "sic semper tyrannis."

Sure, give a man a microphone and you don't know what will come out of his mouth. It might be garbage ... or it just might be something that you need to very carefully listen to.

There are, in fact, people out there who fully comprehend the problem that faces our country and who are steadfastly applying these Freedoms toward its resolution. And clearly, the liars ARE beginning to feel cornered. (They'll look really good in orange.)

I'm curious as to which "conservative bloggers" he refers to. The "conservative bloggers" I read have nothing but disdain for Bush and the current Republican party.

Maybe he refers to the Republican mouthpieces like Hannity and Limbaugh, FreeRepublic and Human Events. I doubt he's talking about real conservatives (Barry Goldwater stripe), because we've abandoned the plantation (Hillary's terminology, not mine) long ago, which is why Republicans can't raise money or win elections anymore.

I would invite all who read this, after you leave your comment to go to Rep. Conyers thread and leave a post on your feelings.
He is listening and all should write to him.

The allegiance of the entire Republican establishment, especially our elected leaders, to a dangerous, venal and corrupt President and Vice President is tearing apart a once credible and worthy political party. Their refusal to separate allegiance to our Constitution and Republic with treasonous loyalty to incompetence, corruption, destruction of Constitutional processes and citizentry rights is tantamount to striking a dagger through the heart of the Republican Party, therefore, the American Republic. Such ignominous behavior of elected leadership of both Parties is inexplicable and heart-breaking.
