Congressional Democrats are capitalizing on the latest intelligence estimate on Iran's nuclear weapons development to question President Bush's credibility amid an angry stalemate with the White House over funding government operations and the war in Iraq.

While many Democrats said they remain cautious about the National Intelligence Estimate's (NIE) conclusion that Iran halted its nuclear weapons development program in 2003, several said that Congress should investigate the discrepancy between the Bush administration's recent doomsday rhetoric on Iran and the NIE's judgments.

"Rarely has a document from the supposedly hidden world of intelligence had such an impact as the National Intelligence Estimate released this week. Rarely has an administration been so unprepared for such an event. And rarely have vehement critics of the 'intelligence community' on issues such as Iraq's weapons of mass destruction reversed themselves so quickly. . . . That such a flawed product could emerge after a drawn-out bureaucratic struggle is extremely troubling." John Bolton

This was reported in Amy Goodman's Democracy Now on August 10th, 2007.

"Cheney Urges Military Strikes on Iran
Vice President Dick Cheney is reportedly urging President Bush to directly confront Iran by launching airstrikes at suspected Iranian training camps inside Iraq run by the Quds force, a special unit of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. According to the McClatchy newspapers, Cheney made the proposal several weeks ago but the idea was opposed by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. On Thursday President Bush warned Iran that it would face consequences if they continue to arm and train insurgents in Iraq.

President Bush: "One of the main reasons that I asked Ambassador Crocker to meet with Iranians inside Iraq was to send the message that there will be consequences for people transporting, delivering EFPs, highly sophisticated IEDs that kill Americans in Iraq. Prime Minister Maliki is visiting in Tehran today. His message, I"m confident will be, stabilize, don"t destabilize. And the sending of weapons into Iraq is a destabilizing factor."

"Sen. Biden Suggests Criminal Charges Against Bush Officials
Impeachment has been making headlines recently in the city of Kent, Ohio. Democratic Presidential candidate Senator Joe Biden has suggested criminal charges could someday be filed against members of the Bush administration. In a recent interview with Newsweek, Biden said there are alternatives to the impeachment of President Bush. Biden said: "I think we should be acquiring and accumulating all the data that is appropriate for possibly bringing criminal charges against members of this administration at a later date."

Please note: This Iran war plans have been going on for a number of years which Joe Biden as Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee is aware of, as well as the intelligence reports of the CIA which were actually made public 1 year ago after the Democrats took control of Congress.

We have chickenshit cowards in office. And how do cowards behave in the world? They bully others. The neocons figured if they bully Iran, then Iran would follow in Libya's shoes and 'spill all of the beans'. I guess Bullies will get lucky once-in-a-while, evidence Libya. But bullying seldom works well, and even less often for the long term. Those who are bullied generally have a time and place in the future to rebel, and so bullying is counterproductive.

You know, people, I read these posts everyday now, and wonder what's different?

I'm probably gonna out myself here age-wise; I know I'm older than most of you - but not as old as a few I know of (but I won't name names)! And I wonder; what's different??

I remember a Vice-Pres. corrupt (tho nothing like Cheney, even) named Agnew...he was forced out of office. Gone! Left!

Nixon, in the Watergate scandal, refused to turn over audio tapes in the investigation that followed; the Supreme Court ORDERED him to turn these tapes over. Although it never got to the impeachment stage, it would have; and Nixon knew this and resigned. A sitting POTUS actually resigned!

Public sentiments were SO against the Vietnam War, there was protesting in the streets; draft-dodgers; arrests; police murdering college kids on campus; chants of "HELL NO - WE WON'T GO!!!"

So what's this trip down memory lane to you?

Back then, we had journalists; they reported the news; on TV and in the newspapers! We didn't have the Internet...if we wanted to be heard, we got out in the street; we organized; and told our lawmakers we were NOT happy, and things needed to change. And change they did!

Now, you've GOT the Internet; but you don't use it to your advantage! Instead of gathering the information you need to get out on the street, to be heard, you sit at your computers more totally aware of anyone before you, of what's wrong with our government and that's as far as it goes. Not all of you...but the majority.
What's it gonna take??? Go to puppetgov.org
Go to YouTube and look at puppetgov.org videos; anti-war rally videos, etc. We can make a change..shit; we're the UNITED STATES...we need to be more UNITED!! We should have brought these assholes down by now...but it's not too late!
Pray to whomever you believe in...and pray for us all!!!

Somehow , now that the NIE report has been reported to be as credible as Dan Rather or John Kerry (he has yet to refute the Swift boat charges because he can't) the defeatist democrats have the problem.. They would sooner put their faith in the Hitler of Iran than the USA.. Par for the course

Had they any evidence that Iran EVER had a nuclear weapons program, the evidence would have become part of the FoxNews and CNN logo, and it would have been posted on every street corner in every major city, and Condi Rice would be presenting it at the UN, just as Powell did with his hand-drawn cartoons od Saddam's weapons labs.

There is no evidence that Iran ever had a nuclear weapons development program.

This whole thing is a fabrication.

They are at it again. First Iraq, now Iran.

The Weekly Standard offers some thoughts on the startling change in the Iran assessment.
*******

NIE: An Abrupt About-Face

As many recognize, the latest NIE on Iran"s nuclear weapons program directly contradicts what the U.S. Intelligence Community was saying just two years previously. And it appears that this about-face was very recent. How recent?

Consider that on July 11, 2007, roughly four or so months prior to the most recent NIE"s publication, Deputy Director of Analysis Thomas Fingar gave the following testimony before the House Armed Services Committee (emphasis added):
__________________________

Iran and North Korea are the states of most concern to us. The United States" concerns about Iran are shared by many nations, including many of Iran"s neighbors. Iran is continuing to pursue uranium enrichment and has shown more interest in protracting negotiations and working to delay and diminish the impact of UNSC sanctions than in reaching an acceptable diplomatic solution. We assess that Tehran is determined to develop nuclear weapons--despite its international obligations and international pressure. This is a grave concern to the other countries in the region whose security would be threatened should Iran acquire nuclear weapons.
____________________________

This paragraph appeared under the subheading: "Iran Assessed As Determined to Develop Nuclear Weapons." And the entirety of Fingar"s 22-page testimony was labeled "Information as of July 11, 2007." No part of it is consistent with the latest NIE, in which our spooks tell us Iran suspended its covert nuclear weapons program in 2003 "primarily in response to international pressure" and they "do not know whether (Iran) currently intends to develop nuclear weapons."

The inconsistencies are more troubling when we realize that, according to the Wall Street Journal, Thomas Fingar is one of the three officials who were responsible for crafting the latest NIE. The Journal cites "an intelligence source" as describing Fingar and his two colleagues as "hyper-partisan anti-Bush officials." (The New York Sun drew attention to one of Fingar"s colleagues yesterday.)

If you were Iran, wouldn't you want Nukular weapons, if for no other reason to protect yourself from rogue leaders like Bush?

Why aren't there masses of people marching on Washington DC with torches and pitchforks to rouse these people out of the White House and the halls of Congress.

SunshineDaydream-"On July 5, 2007, Congressman John Olver (D-MA) during a town hall style meeting, stated that he could not support impeachemnt (HR333 sponsored by Dennis Kucinich D-OH), saying if Congress voted to forward impeachment proceedings to the Senate, that "The President would declare a national emergency, institute martial law, and suspend the 2008 elections."

You have got to be kidding me! That would certainly explain the failure of our elected officials to act, wouldn't it. However, the Administration probably wouldn't say that if it ever intended to step away at the end of Dubya's term.... I mean, why would they make a threat like that when it would be exposed the minute they left office??

These men and women are not patriots and have no allegiance to this country or the oath they swore to defend the Constitution. It is entirely possible that they have no intention of stepping down.

Something is in the wind, folks.... be alert...because after martial law, the elected officials go into "protective custody" and there is no one to go to and demand change.

Somethings happening here... what it is ain't exactly clear... think its time we stop, hey, whats that sound? Everybody look what's going down...

The resolution to impeach Cheney (HR 333) has been forwarded to The Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties - Chaired by the Hon.Jerrold Nadler. This Subcommittee has 8 Democrats, and 5 Republicans: and oddly enough, one of those Democrats is John Conyers Jr.
Phone number for Hon. Jerrold Nadler in DC is: 202-225-5635

After the Subcommittee reviews and rules on resolution, it goes to House Judiciary Committee, which is chaired by John Conyers Jr. And...Jerrold Nadler also sits on House Judiciary Committee!!!
John Conyers Jr. phone number in DC is 202-225-5126.

Email form for Judiciary members is the same for all; send one form to Nadler and INSIST they put HR 333 on the calender IMMEDIATELY;and send bill to House Judiciary Committee.
Send separate email to Conyers and tell him you want HR 333 to go through Subcommittee now - and he needs to put on House Judiciary calendar as soon as possible.
email form found at:
http://judiciary.house.gov/Contact.aspx

Add to this the phone & fax numbers provided by "research":
United States Senate
Committee on the Judiciary
Dem: phone 202-224-7703
........fax.202-224-9516
Rep: phone 202-224-5225
........fax.202-224-9102

Enough calls, enough email messages, enough faxes..WE WILL MAKE THEM LISTEN!!!

I wish Democrats in Congress would use the "L" word. "LIAR".

The votes may not be there to impeach and remove Bush as President (let alone send him to The Hague to face trial for war crimes), but the Dems need to remind the American people that they were repeatedly lied to by this President and his administration in the runup to the war.

The can destroy what's left of his shrinking political capital and credibility.

The President misled the nation into war against the wrong country under false pretenses. It doesn't matter if violence is down or up if there is no resolution in site and we shouldn't be in there in the first place. When the Dems focus on the short-term aspect of the surge, the lose the overall picture that the President is a LIAR. And he didn't lie about cheating on his wife, he lied about something FAR more serious that cost the lives of thousands of American soliders and tens of thousands of civilians.

They need to tie that lie to EVERY policy issue.

"The President misled the nation into war under false pretenses against the wrong country, therefore he has no credibility on Iran..."

"Because he misled the nation in 2003, I do not trust his budgetary numbers."

"The President lacks credibility on health care because he has shown from Iraq that he's truth-challenged when it comes to facts he doesn't want to hear."

The Dems may not be able to remove him. However, destroying what's left of his political capital and reminding the American people, particularly those who think that "God is in the White House because Bush is President" that he lacks credibility is the only justice George W. Bush could realistically face in his lifetime.

Whether he is deliberately dishonest or just delusional almost doesn't matter. The same tens of thousands of people are still dead.
