Jenna Bush appeared on the Ellen show, taped yesterday but airing today. Ellen surprised her with a phone and a request for Jenna to call her parents, just to prove she can. The President and First Lady both yukked it up with the daytime host.

The furor over the Bush daughter on television is curious. Why should anyone be shocked that she is (consciously or not) a shill for her daddy? As for Ellen DeGeneres, it is difficult for me to see why she was ever championed. Underneath her warm show business exterior, her persona seems self-absorbed and cold. But having climbed the media ladder to the point of being on weekday daytime television, Ms. DeGeneres saves her controversies for a mis-adopted dog. I guess it is simply not part of the game plan to shed tears for the real blood and tragedy being shed in Iraq.
