Jenna Bush Phones Home On Ellen DeGeneres

Jenna Bush appeared on the Ellen show, taped yesterday but airing today. Ellen surprised her with a phone and a request for Jenna to call her parents, just to prove she can. The President and First Lady both yukked it up with the daytime host.

Why do TV hosts have to be such dweebs? At this moment in our history, what good does it do anyone to treat the Bush family like cute national mascots?

Bush ought to be in prison, not gabbing with Ellen. The entertainment industry in this country is guilty of fluffing famous politicians and making them seem benign when (in this case) nothing could be further from the truth.

A lot of the criticism of Ellen here is over the top. Everyone knows Bush can be warm and charming in person - ask Oprah if you don't - and this little exchange on the phone probably didn't change anyone's opinion of his presidency. It's a little late for that.

So Ellen entertained Jenna Bush whose father supports amending the constitution to prevent Ellen from marrying her partner. Sometimes entertainers like Ellen have to have some sense of integrity.­Unfortunat­ely it seems to be missing here. The Bush Administration has done so much to harm this country and Ellen makes light of this by entertainingly calling Papa Bush. Rosie O'Donnell would never do anything like this. I guess Ellen's true colors are comming out - not rainbow but shades of green for money and ratings. So sad.

This makes Barry Manilow’s refusal to appear on The View look like high morality. Once upon a time Ellen was an icon for coming out publicly. Now, she panders to the people who would legalize discrimination against her at a Constitutional level by helping hawk books for Jenna & Harper Collins (parented by Rupert Murdoch and News Corp). Remember “Yep, I’m Gay” on the cover of Time. Perhaps now it can be “Yep, I’m a Trader.”
