"No Country for Old Men," the Coen brothers' searing take on crime and carnage along the Rio Grande, is the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures' pick for the best film of 2007.

Starring Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin, with an indelibly villainous turn by Javier Bardem, "No Country" is a harshly beautiful, faithful adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's novel about the aftermath of a drug deal gone bad. It also earned honors for brothers Joel and Ethan Coen in the adapted-screenplay category and for best ensemble cast. Roger Deakins, the Coens' longtime cinematographer, will receive a career achievement award from the group.

The Coen brothers again?

Dudes, why don't you retire already, and give other's a chance to win awards. This is nothing more than unchecked aggression.

Dude, this movie was so fucking awesome. I'm going to see it for the second time tomorrow night. Javier Bardem should be in every film. And I do mean EVERY film. With compressed-air tank in tow. Quite possibly the best diabolical, purely evil, utterly sociopathic movie character since Joe Pesci in Goodfellas. Only with more original taste in weapons. Good stuff.

What's more, did everyone who saw the film check out that trailer for the new P.T. Anderson film starring Daniel Day-Lewis, There Will be Blood? Holy shit, dude, it's too much awesomeness, I can't take it.

This is not only the best film of the year, but quite possible the best work the Coen bros have ever produced. I do not think there is one minute of wrong choice in this flick.

I have not seen ALL their work, but close to.

I saw Blood Simple on first release. These guys really know their stuff.

While I believe one would need to see all the pictures of 2007 to honestly name a "best" one; out of the movies I have seen, I would agree with this choice.

Note to editor...

It would seems that all the time and effort you take to censor legitimate posts might be better spent on all these spammers of late. It really is getting out of hand.

Awesome flick. I'd say it's a toss-up between this and "Rescue Dawn" for best film of 2007.

Meanwhile, this is a great picture, and worthy of the award.

A close second would be another smaller release film called "eastern Promises". A must see.
