Five years ago, President Bush signed legislation creating the Department of Homeland Security. Over the past five years, the American people have become far too familiar with stories about DHS and its gross overruns on projects, the worst employee morale in the federal government, the inoperability of information technology, our exposure to cyber-terrorism or FEMA's fake press conference.

Today, CREW is releasing a report, Homeland Security for Sale - DHS: Five Years of Mismanagement, detailing massive failures and billions wasted at the Department of Homeland Security.

Neocons are imbued from the cradle with an instinctive hatred of government. This trait makes them incapable governing, having no orientation to how to lead and manage a government. Although I disagreed with their ideology, the more traditional conservatives shared a commitment to and training in the art governing. Neocons in power are what we get when we elect a fringe group to power. Go too far right or too far left, and we're just asking for trouble.

The entire Bush Administration and Republican party in general are one massive, putrid failure which, in the last five years alone, have cost countless lives, our moral bearing, international esteem and untold trillions of public dollars.

IMPEACH!

The DHS is a license to steal taxpayers money.

The term "GWOT" (global war on terror) the basis for the lame DHS has been discarded by both our military and the criminal infested White House.

DHS is merely an unConstitutional power grab by the asshats y'all voted for, TWICE!

Save billions of dollars and make our country safe, again. DISBAND THIS USELESS BULLSHIT DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY, NOW!

Homeland security is joke, fighting terrorism is a myth, Chertoff is a wimp and Bush is an ignoramus. The driving forces of this fraud known as the Bush Administration is greed and profit involving the pilfering of our national treasury with warmongering and profiteering. Money lost and wasted in Iraq and here at home has become an egregious outrage that goes on without a whimper from the defunct media or the American people whose economic welfare is no longer the concern of the criminals in the White House and their enablers in and out of congress. What has happened to our nation in the past seven years will take decades to remedy if the will is there.

For example, the Coast Guard now has young recruits blasting around in inflatables on SF Bay with automatic weapons harrassing weekend sailors, but they can't take quick action to protect us from an oil spill. If it is the goal of the repugs to prove that big government doesn't work, they sure a doing a heck of a job!

Billions wasted?!?? I think not! It all went to a good cause, to line the pockets of Republican contractors.

That's neoconservatism for you.

Jewish groups get most Homeland Security funding

Jewish institutions will receive the majority of U.S. federal funds designated this year to help secure nonprofit organizations.

In Phoenix, the only money that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has awarded through the Urban Areas Security Initiative Non-Profit Security Grant Program will go to improve security at four free-standing Jewish day schools: The King David School, Pardes Jewish Day School, Phoenix Hebrew Academy and Jess Schwartz Jewish Community High School.

"In some of the schools, we're making sure that they have better video equipment; in some, it's higher fencing," said Jane Wabnik, who wrote the successful grant proposal, explaining some of the ways the money will be used to improve security.

Wabnik, who works for the Community Relations Committee of the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix, said the grant was initiated with "the imprimatur of Fred Zeidman and Adam Schwartz," who are respectively the federation's director of planning and CEO.

The idea was to let the federation, as an umbrella group, do the heavy lifting of writing security grant proposals for constituent agencies, which the schools are, Wabnik said. She stressed that the schools will receive the money, though, not the federation.

"I'm very pleased because they only gave 308 grants around the country," she added.

The only other grant in Arizona was $97,475 to the Jewish Community Services Center in Tucson. The maximum amount that could be awarded in any single grant was $100,000.

There were a number of criteria used to justify the grant, which supports "target hardening" against terrorist threats, she said, including a threat assessment by local law-enforcement officials, the symbolic value of the sites and how the sites might be used by the community at large in efforts to recover from an attack.

Wabnik pointed out that schools generally have been used as gathering places and temporary shelters for people displaced by disasters.
