Whitney Houston's Return: Cleaned Up And Sounding Great In Malaysia

Whitney Houston

Some good news for a change about Whitney Houston. She made a tremendous comeback last Saturday in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, performing several of her hits as if little time had passed.

Were we worried that drugs and alcohol had killed her voice? Yes, indeed. But video and audio from the concert, thanks to fans at the Live & Loud KL 07 show who posted on YouTube, reveal a cheery looking, healthy Whitney hitting high notes and striking the right chord every time.

Among the songs posted are two difficult ones to sing: "I Will Always Love You" and "I Believe in You and Me." Each time, Whitney is singing with little musical accompaniment. She's out there on her own and finding her way. On the latter number in particular, she sounds like her old self. It's a brave performance and to be commended.

Huge anxieties drive people to reach for ______ (drugs, food, whatever). I hope she's working to address and express those. It's not just about 'staying clean', but getting to the emotional drivers behind the problem. Go Whitney - and everyone struggling with addiction.

I, too just listened to the clips. And I am glad to hear her voice. I, too hope she makes it all the way back. Her voice is a gift and she knoes it.

For the naysayers - we all take a different path through life. Drugs, liquor, stupid marriages, happens to millions of people. It's not my place to judge. Forgiveness is for her immediate family to give. And it looks like she has good support. I'm just an old fan from the 1980's.

She looks great in the clips and her voice sounds like it did not lose too much.

Get back to the states girl for some arena tours.

I remember seeing her in 1995 in the audience at a performance at the Beacon Theater in New York flanked by the requisite retinue of hangers-on and burly security types and I thought, "what a life". But ironically, she did appear to be this diaphanous, ethereal creature that somehow held it all together while simultaneously rising above it all. I guess that's what they mean by star quality. But a person can only do that for so long. It was bound to come tumbling down. That's why it's indeed brave to see her pulled together and back on stage. I can only imagine the mix of courage, ego, and moxie it took to give it another whirl. She sounds ridiculously beautiful in that clip. I just hope she can rise above the fame thing this go round.

I'm pulling for her. How unselfish of me!
Truly, hope she comes all of the way back, eclipsing what she was then/is now.
Had the serendipitous honor to have met her at a suburban Atlanta Starbuck's a couple of years ago. I helped her with what she was carrying to her vehicle after I'd nearly collided with her trying to enter the store.
She was very gracious to me, took the time to ask my name, and when she spoke my name it sounded as an Angel speaking music to float weightlessly on the air.
Best Wishes to you Whitney may all good things come to you. There are a lot of us out there who love you and want you to succeed.

Of all the female singers I run fan sites for, I refused to fun one for her. Yeah, lets applaud a woman who had everything, then threw it away while exposing her young daughter to YEARS of drug abuse and physical abuse time and again, intervention after intervention. We should applaud the stars who never succumbed to drug use. Where is there applause?

She had a great voice but her music was weak. Now her voice is a shell of what is was. She basically speaks through her songs, her voice can no longer hit high notes. She's a has-been.
