Huckabee: Gay Marriage Would End Civilization

Forget terrorists. Mike Huckabee has identified a threat right here at home that would result in the downfall of our whole civilization.

GQ: Is the strategy shifting because social conservatives are losing on those core issues? Ten years ago, it would have been unimaginable to have gay marriage even in liberal Massachusetts. Now it's there.

Huckabee: I don't think the issue's about being against gay marriage. It's about being for traditional marriage and articulating the reason that's important. You have to have a basic family structure. There's never been a civilization that has rewritten what marriage and family means and survived. So there is a sense in which, you know, it's one thing to say if people want to live a different way, that's their business. But when you want to redefine what family means or what marriage means, then that's an issue that should require some serious and significant debate in the public square.

This is almost (almost) as ludicrous as Bill Richardson's answer at the HRC/LOGO forum, when Melissa Etheridge asked him if he thought being gay was a choice. Richardson said "Yes". Melissa rephrased the question; born that way or is it a choice. He back-peddled and could only come up with "I'm not a scientist!"

With the amount of bigotry in this country, who the hell would make a choice to be gay?? Like waking up one morning and deciding to be gay!!

To guru; I won't say I understand where you're coming from...cuz I'm not gay. I will say I feel for you...but understand you have made one of the hardest decisions a person can make...to be themselves. You can say "Love me or hate me; this is who I am", and hopefully you will find more people that love you for who you are, than hate you for it!

There is a change in the wind, my friend..please notice where the bullshit is coming from, and where the truth is coming from. Even amongst the Democratic "front-runners", Clinton, Obama, Edwards, etc., they cannot condone gay marriage. The gay community will have to settle for civil unions, which I don't think is fair!

Only Dennis Kucinich, a man of peace, love, equality and promise, has not blinked ONCE in his conviction that the gay community should be afforded the same rights as every other American - including marriage! Check him out!

PLEASE let this story get traction. Governor Huckabee is clearly ill-informed about world history; marriage has been re-defined countless times, and civilization has flourished. Polygamy was the norm throughout much of human history, as was arranged marriage. Obviously, we've seen civilization move away from these definitions, with the fairly modern invention of "romantic love" and courtship. I'm tired of people blaming the fall of the Roman Empire on the gays... we could just as easily blame it on the inclusion of Christian faith into public doctrine.

The whole Republican lot including Ron Paul except for his stance on Iraq is so self centered. They cringe that they have to live in a world of different ethnicity, different talents or lack there of, or just a victim of bad luck. The decline of civilization began the day George W. Bush was appointed "president" of the United States. This nation is in a true test as to its survival as a viable and progressive democracy as a result of the failed policies and programs of the Bush/Cheney regime and the world at large has become much more dangerous, you can't blame gays or any other segment of society except Bush and his warmongering, war profiteering enablers in and out of congress.
