White House Mortgage Meltdown: Bush Gives Out Wrong Hotline Number

Harried homeowners seeking mortgage relief from a new Bush administration hotline Thursday had to contend with a bit of temporary misdirection from the president himself.

As he announced his plan to ease the mortgage crisis for consumers, President Bush accidentally gave out the wrong phone number for the new "Hope Now Hotline" set up by his administration.

This is not a good idea. There is a other side that is going to be hurt by not allowing the rates to rise.

Also - in the future people with bad credit scores and less money will very likely - almost certainly going to have to pay higher fees\rates since there is going to be more risk on loans since the market now sees that the government might change the rules.

How could anyone on this planet accept any Bush family public statements regarding mortgages, banking, or savings and loan? Is there anyone out there who looks beyond sound bite pablum? How can one believe that the Bush family actions have no impact on them as individuals? How can anyone believe current US government mortgage "crisis" actions benefit anyone but a select few? The real issue is that the Mortgage Freeze is only for those homeowners who are not behind on their payments, those that are behind (and need the freeze most) do not qualify. Also, if your mortgage rate has not yet reset, you cannot freeze the lower rate. Also the lender is the one who makes the decision as to whether or not you get the freeze at all. The lender will make a personal choice base on if they feel that you cannot pay back the mortgage if they raise your rates.

The ‘Devils in the Details’ folks, only 12% of those with Adjustable Rate mortgages will qualify.

Bush gave out the wrong number so you concentrate on that issue and forget that 88% of those with Adjustable Rate mortgages will NOT qualify.
