Congressional leaders are assembling a $500 billion package to try to resolve an impasse by providing President Bush with unfettered money for the Iraq war in exchange for new spending on popular domestic programs.

If acceptable to lawmakers and the White House, the package to be considered in the House as early as Tuesday would avert the threat of a shutdown of federal agencies and end a dispute that has lasted months and pitted Congressional Democrats against Mr. Bush and his Republican allies.

When stuck deep in the hole, Congress wants to keep digging and spending?! Best way to STOP the crony corruption machine is shut down the funding for All departments. The only digging now needed is for Congress to root out the administration's crime spree details, then fund the prosecutions as needed. It's okay to tie chimpy's hands, whenever impeachment should be ON the table.

Providing Bush with unfettered money is manifestly such a bad idea that it will break the Party.
I don't see the error in this statement. IT IS A BAD IDEA.
A monstrously bad one.
Sorry for stating the obvious, it seems some members of the Democratic party vehemently disagree.
I think they're out of their collective minds.

Ouch!

I pinched myself to wake up.

I dreamed the Democrats took back Congress in the last election and nothing changed.

Hahaha haha!

Who's still a member of the democratic party?

Do you see why this former democrat is voting for Ron Paul? You don't get waffleitis with that man.

Once again:

If the Democrats cannot find the votes to override Bush's refusal to take care of the troops and get them out of VietNam, the Sequel, then perhaps they can find a spine and shove this war down Bush's throat.

Give Bush all the money he wants, oh yeah. And stand up, and quit funding this adventurism in deficit. Pay for the war with a heavily progressive tax - say, a surcharge on everyone in the top ten percent of income. This will put Bush in what to him would be an impossible situation: Raise taxes on rich folks - egad! Communism! - or veto the war. Either way, we win, he loses.

But no, the DLC has abandoned the Keynesian model of economics the Democrats once espoused, and have bought into the Friedman model of laissez-affaire economics. The DLC has never met a regressive tax they didn't like nor a progressive tax they did.

Spineless little worms.

It is not really surprising. In 'principle' Congress is not really against the war. At times it seems that the War is another political chip that the Democrats use for anything but bringing the War to an end.

Might as well have written this article a month ago when the Democrats said they would not fund the war without withdrawl deadlines. Its no surprise that they capitulated.

I AM LIVID!!! Almost speechless!!!!

How did we go from: " You get nothing; and we don't care if the Pentagon would have an accounting nightmare!" TO: "Here; we'll give you more than you asked for!"??????????

(Don't answer that, by the way!)

Dems "caving in" is ONE thing, but this is outrageous!!

This debt is in the TRILLIONS!!! Not only have we put us, our children, and our grand-children in debt, but our great-grandchildren!!
(The planet probably won't survive that long anyway!)

Where is all this money coming from anyway; China??
What happens when they call in all the loans, and say "That's okay...we'll forgive the debt...we'll just take your country, and call it even!!"

All that hope we had after mid-term elections; whoo-hoo; we have a majority in the House AND the Senate; it down the tubes! We don't have enough to override a veto. And the Repugnicans are sticking together like a pack of wild wolves!!
Not a Dem. with a pair of balls in the group!!

And we still have another year of Bushco, racking up the debts, making his own laws as he goes along, and even if we impeach next month, (Yes, I'm dreaming!), he's done enough, and Congress has done little enogh, to screw us up for years & years to come!!

OK. I'm convinced. The system is totally broken and corrupt. I'm done with these fucking pussies and sellouts.

Edwards, you better not be lying motherfucker. Cause I'm voting for you and if you win you better fucking clean fucking house.

All these motherfuckers had to do was stand their fucking ground. And history would have told how they couragously saved this country. Instead, they are the self serving cowards who held the country down while the republicans took their turns at fucking it.
