A new intelligence estimate downplaying Iran's nuclear ambitions has not changed the way the Defense Department views the country that has been long criticized by the Bush administration for fostering instability in Iraq, senior Pentagon officials said Friday.

"There has been no course correction -- slowdown, speedup -- given to us inside the Joint Staff" for military crisis planning on Iran, based on the intelligence report released Monday, said Marine Corps Lt. Gen. John Sattler, the director of strategic plans and policy for the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE.... The Hitler of Iran should be in Oslo riding public transportation to get his peace prize. Iran has as much credibility as Gore does in his junk science fiction

Pentagon: Iran Nuke Report Won't Change Military Planning

-----------

And why should it? Their plans, drawn long time ago, had nothing to do with "Iran nukes". Those plans were based on (1)Iran's oil and gas reserves, and (2) Maintaining Israels' capacity to attack other countries at will.

Rasmussen Poll on Iran
Friday, December 07, 2007
***

"Just 18% of American voters believe that Iran has halted its nuclear weapons program. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 66% disagree and say Iran has not stopped its nuclear weapons program. Twenty-one percent (21%) of men believe Iran has stopped the weapons development along with 16% of women (see crosstabs).

The survey was conducted following release of a government report saying that Iran halted its nuclear weapons development program in 2003.

The Rasmussen Reports survey also found that 67% of American voters believe that Iran remains a threat to the national security of the United States. Only 19% disagree while 14% are not sure."

People, you miss the point.

Hell, why do I even post given all the vitriol on both sides? Nobody reads this, amongst all the screaming.

Simply put, it is the Pentagon's job to make war and war plans, not policy.

Yes, the Cheney/Bush regime is insane. But until the majority of the remaining government declares this regime unfit to govern, the Pentagon is bound to make plans for war. That is their reason d'etre. So why is everybody up in arms because the Pentagon stated they will continue to do what they were created to do?

Consider, the Pentagon has war plans to invade every country on the planet, no matter how insignificant a target or unlikely a goal that country is. That is what the Pentagon does.

Maybe this means their plan all along was to arrest Bush if he issued illegal orders. (I'm not getting my hopes up.)

Just went on the link to NY Times Politico blog.
Among others, there are captions regarding what the candidates say about military action towards Iran:

MILITARY OPTION NOT OFF THE TABLE:
Clinton, Obama, Edwards, Dodd;
All the Republicans except Ron Paul

MILITARY OPTION OFF THE TABLE:
Richardson, Kucinich, Gravel; Ron Paul

NO MILITARY OPTION:
JOE BIDEN,

Other topics are also covered...you can also hear their speeches to the DNC ...
And if you don't feel safer and hopeful after hearing JOE BIDEN's speech, (which was the last one, and not long after the Hillary campaign headquarters hostage story broke), then there's something wrong with you. (no offense, but there is)

Restore our Honor.
Elevate Excellence.
EXPERIENCE = CHANGE.

JOE BIDEN FOR PRESIDENT.

I hope you can improve on your Iraq plan. Keep planning till you get it right. Grenada and Panama were the last successes.

"The jury's still out," Sattler said.

Yes, Iran is still a question mark, but Cheney and Bush aren't.

The jury that will find this administration guilty of treason hasn't even been convened yet, but that's only a matter of time.

Whether it's Leheay now, or the International Criminal Court, later, the evidence to convict Bu$h Co. of WAR CRIMES is mounting.

Of course it won't change Pentagon planning. War is fun. And we have all this fiat money to play with, as much as we need, Congress will see to that. Wheeeeeee!

Impeach Bush/Cheney now!

But I don't see that happening. The Safe Child Act, or some such nonsensically-named piece of legislation that was recently passed in the House 409-2, is once again an incremental extension of Federal Power. Two people out of the whole of the House of Representatives dissented. Ron Paul, the defender of the Constitution, was one of them---of course!

There is obviously a power struggle going on between the CIA and the exectuve/military--though of course not so cut-and-dried or black-and-white as it seems.

There were CIA officials who were willing to break the NIA report publicly--and go to jail for leaking if need be--to force Bush to talk about it in front of the media.

Interesting times...

"She (Valerie Plame) said a lawyer had called her just before her talk began and told her that special prosecutor Patrick J. Fitzgerald had agreed to turn his transcripts of interviews with Mr. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney over to U. S. Rep. Henry Waxman,"¼ D-Calif., who is known for his relish for investigating wrongdoing by Republicans."

Yahoo! Sounds good to me!
