White House and Justice Department officials, along with senior members of Congress, advised the Central Intelligence Agency in 2003 against a plan to destroy hundreds of hours of videotapes showing the interrogations of two operatives of Al Qaeda, government officials said Friday.

The chief of the agency's clandestine service nevertheless ordered their destruction in November 2005, taking the step without notifying even the C.I.A.'s own top lawyer, John A. Rizzo, who was angry at the decision, the officials said.

Biden Wants Special Counsel in Tape Case

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A Senate Democratic leader said Sunday the attorney general should appoint a special counsel to investigate the CIA's destruction of videotaped interrogations of two suspected terrorists. Sen. Joe Biden, a Democratic presidential candidate and chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, cited Michael Mukasey's refusal during confirmation hearings in October to describe waterboarding as torture.

Well when congress censures or whatever they will do, it wil be interesting to see if Republicans, like John McCain will actually vote against the president in this one. And, if Harriet Meiers knew, there is not way on the lowest side from heaven, that I will believe the President didnto know. And if he did not know, he is clearly incompetent as a leader because he clearely failed to instruct his underlings to tell him of this type of illegal behavior...oh, yeah, I forgot, his instructions were to do what he wanted them to do without telling him so he could claim ignorance.

YES, BUT WAS THERE AN UNKNOWN SIGNING STATEMENT THAT NO ONE BUT THE OVER RIDING OFFICIAL WAS GIVEN THAT PROVIDED HIM WITH THE AUTHORITY UNDER EXECUTIVE PRIVELEGE TO DESTROY SUCH DOCUMENTS.

THOSE NASTY DECEITFUL SIGNING STATEMENTS THE AMERICAN PUBLIC AND WORLD NEVER ARE APPRISED OF BECAUSE IRONICALLY THEY ARE PROBABLY STAMPED AS CLASSIFIED.

HAVE YOU EVER CONSIDERED THAT?

I AM NOT TRULY CONCERNED BECAUSE NOTHING HAPPENS IN A VACUUM AND THE TRUTH WILL EMERGE BY THOSE AMERICANS WHO HAVE REGAINED THEIR LOYALTY OF ALLEGIANCE TO OUR NATION AND NOT A ROGUE PRESIDENCY SEEKING TO REVISION FACTS.

WHAT YOU MUST BEAR IN MIND MANY OF SUCH FOLKS ARE ALREADY OPENING THEIR SHUTTERED EYES AFTER THE PRESIDENT'S DELIBERATE INVOKING OF THE SPECTRE OF WWIII CONSIDERING
HIS EXECUTION OF HIS 'PRE-EMPTION DOCTRINE'.

THIS RECKLESS STATEMENT HAD TO PLACE BOTH

RUSSIA AND CHINA'S ARMIES AND NUCLEAR SITES

ON FULL ALERT DIRECTING THEIR NUKES AT

AMERICA'S CITIES AND TOWNS SINCE THE PRESIDENT

HAS IN FACT BROADEN HIS CONSIDERATION OF HIS

AXIS OF EVIL.

THIS MY FRIENDS IS WHY THE DAMAGING REVELATIONS OCCURRING THIS WEEK PERTAINING TO THE CLEAR DISREGARD OF MAINTAINING THE TAPES THAT RESULTED IN ITS DESTRUCTION, THE KNOWLEDGE THE NIE LIKE KAYE'S REQUESTED EXECUTIVE DELAYED RELEASE OF KAYE'S REPORT OCCUR AFTER THE 2004 GOP CONVENTION ILLUSTRATES THE DANGER NOT ONLY AMERICA AND ITS CITIZENS ARE IN, BUT THAT OF THE WORLD POWERS WHO 'DO HAVE NUCLEAR INTERCONTINENTAL WARHEADS'.

THIS IS NOT THE TIME TO BE HOLDING A BAD HAND OF TEXAS HOLD'EM SINCE HUMANITY AND ITS POSSIBLE DESTRUCTION LIES IN THE HANDS OF A PRESIDENCY WHO THOUGHT NOTHING OF RECKLESSLY DELIBERATELY MAKING SUCH STATEMENTS THAT MIRROR THE EXCUSE MADE PERTAINING TO IGNORING THE AUGUST 2001 PDB BY BOTH HE AND THE THEN NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISOR WHO SUBSEQUENTLY EFFECTIVELY CAUSED AMERICA'S MOB GO IT ALONE REACTION TO HER DESCRIPTION OF THE MUSHROOM CLOUD TAKEN FROM THE COLD WAR RUSSIAN INTERCONTINENTAL NUCLEAR IMPACT TIME
WHICH CLEARLY IRAQ NOR ANY OR ARAB MUSLIM NATION IN THAT AREA POSSESSED WHEN SHE EFFECTIVELY YELLED ATTACK ACROSS EVERY TELEVESION STATION NATIONALLY AND WORLDWIDE.

BUT EMPIRAL IMPERATIVE TRUTH ALWAYS SURFACES IN THE HEARTS OF THOSE WHO TRULY SERVE THEIR NATION WITH HONOR, DIGNITY, AND STATESMANSHIP JUST LIKE THE MAINE.

I believe that the tapes were destroyed because it was appearant that the behavior was illegal.

Torture is illegal whether or not there is a tape of the incident.

I expect that this will kill any legal case of detainees claiming torture, as waterboarding does not leave any scars. I would hope that someone is held responsible for torturing detainees.

These actions have made us less secure. The fact that neither the head of the CIA at that time (Goss) nor the President seem to remember anything about this is very worrying.

"i spoke to the president this morning about this- he has no recollection of being made aware of the tapes or their destruction before yesterday" sounds familiar doesnt it..remember his ace of spades A.G.- " i have no recollection of these meetings, cant recall, cant recollect, cant recall", ect... do these snowflakes remember waking up yesterday, this morning, what they had for breakfast and so-forth..no they dont - they cant recollect feces or stool for crying out loud..it looks like these two apples have fallen from the tree.

You either torture or you don't! You can't have it both way.

The US can not be a signatory to a convention or an agreement against torture and, at the same time, use waterboarding on suspected terrorists. There are no exceptions in these conventions. And the US can not send people to countries (like Syria) knowing that they will be beaten. You either torture or you don't!

At some point, the people have to decide. We either torture or we don't! It's not enough to have the president declare (zero credibility) "we do not torture"! This is hypocrisy.

You either torture or you don't ! Wich is it?

Bush and Cheney were lying us into another war and none of their cheerleaders want to pay for the ones we're in.

It's a kooky, mixed-up, world.

'"CIA analysts willing to "go to jail" to ensure NIE"s release.

'Retired Col. W. Patrick Lang, a former official in the Defense Intelligence Agency, reveals that senior CIA analysts pushed for the NIE"s key judgments on Iran to be released, threatening to speak to the media if they weren"t:

'The "jungle telegraph" in Washington is booming with news of the Iran NIE. I am told that the reason the conclusions of the NIE were released is that it was communicated to the White House that "intelligence career seniors were lined up to go to jail if necessary" if the document"s gist were not given to the public. Translation? Someone in that group would have gone to the media "on the record" to disclose its contents.'

Finally, somebody with enough balls to stand up to the flakes in the White House. Remember, George, it was the KGB that brought down the Soviet Union.

As revealed in this story the tapes were destroyed not so much because of the torture tactics but when the CIA brought in interrogator's disguised as Saudi agents Zacarias Moussaoui ready felt comfortable with them and spilled the beans about the truth of 9/11!

An man in charge of the trials of the FBI-CIA bombing of the World Trade Center, and who let them torture Padilla insane, and believes in Waterboarding, and gave Larry Silverman BILLIONS OF DOLLARS for blasting down the World Trade Center, as the Attorney General?

The Bush administration knew about the destroyed tapes and most likely leaked the info to the New York Times so as to retaliate against and punish the CIA for it's involvement in the NIE that hurt the president and his march to war with Iran.

So, after the Valerie Plame scandal, are we going to really pretend that the administration is above such devious tactics? Did the Plame scandal not matter at all? You'd think the lesson learned would be to question any leaks made to the press or public that have the deliberate goal of punishing or putting a chill on the intelligence community. And yet, so soon after the Plame outing and the legal circus that followed, here we have a CIA-damaging leak being given to the New York Times within days of the NIE being put out first, a NIE that the CIA undoubtedly had a heavy role in. And yet where are the investigative journalists asking if this destroyed tape leak isn't just Valerie Plame redux? Where is the cry from the left (from a blogosphere that is supposedly politically savvy) asking if this is not just the Bush administration up to it's old tricks? I see little if any mention of such a possibility in the mainstream media or the alternative media.

Whether I'm right or wrong, at least I had the intellectual curiosity to ask if there was a connection between the NIE and the CIA tape leak. If only our so-called journalistic community would ask the same such questions. How many of the followed the Plame story? And they can't see the similarities between that and this? If I am right, it would be a shame if the Bush administration got away with such heinous activity. But they will if nobody on the left or nobody among journalistic circles starts getting curious about the possibility that the White House did in fact leak the destroyed tapes story to retaliate against the CIA for the NIE.
