Years ago, I went to one of their stores; asked questions, got no answers. Not polite, very unprofessional, to say the least. R.I.P.
What's with Radio Shack? Every one I go into has minimal merchandise and a large sales staff standing around chatting. Others tell me they see the same thing. I keep expecting to read they've closed shop. Once their stores were loaded with merchandise.

I'm overjoyed. Even though they were the only computer store for miles, they were so anti-customer that I was glad the manager lost her job. Good riddance.

A totally typical conversation with the sales drone: "Can I bring this cable ($40) back if it doesn't work?" "No, because it comes with software." "It's a CABLE! What's the software for??? I can't even run it, all I need is the cable." "Sorry."

Did I say "Good Riddance"?

By trade I'm an IT geek. Over the years, mostly reluctantly, I've had to trade with CompUSA. My local store in Milford, CT. has never failed to irritate, aggravate and just generally piss me off.

The best story was the time I had about $1,500 dollars worth of stuff in my carriage and they would not accept my credit card. The reason: I had not signed the card. Instead I wrote "please check ID" on the white tape. I had plenty of I.D., etc. The store manager said it was "company policy" not to accept unsigned cards. I had probably purchased $10k worth of stuff with this very same card at that very same store, but no go.

Eventually, Internet retailers made buying stuff at CompUSA unnecessary, so I did not need to visit them often in the last few years. I feel bad for the folks losing their jobs, but CompUSA really s**ked.I won't miss them.

One of their locations in Long Beach, CA closed and was replaced by a Halloween costume store late last Spring. I was dismayed, but not surprised that another choice for computer retail was suddenly gone. Like UnionJok, though, I treated CompUSA as not necessarily my first choice for spare parts.

One has to wonder how many millions in "golden parachute" monies went out the door with those four failed CEOs.

When it was SoftWarehouse, I used to go there a lot after I bought my first computer. Later I moved to place that wasn't very close.

They reminded me of a Radio Shack -- convenient and adequate, but never the best prices. When the nearest store closed, I went there to get parts to build a new computer. They gave me good advice and the computer worked pretty well, but it was no cheaper than places still in business.
