Huckabee Wanted Aids Quarantine

AP:

Mike Huckabee once advocated isolating AIDS patients from the general public, opposed increased federal funding in the search for a cure and said homosexuality could "pose a dangerous public health risk."

As a candidate for a U.S. Senate seat in 1992, Huckabee answered 229 questions submitted to him by The Associated Press. Besides a quarantine, Huckabee suggested that Hollywood celebrities fund AIDS research from their own pockets, rather than federal health agencies.

Wow, I don't think Mr. Huckabee understands how AIDS works. It is not a scourge solely afflicting homosexuals. Any child with hemophelia, any human being undergoing surgery, is at risk from tainted blood transfusions. Think of Ryan White, think of those thousands in France that contracted AIDS from the above listed reasons. They were not homosexual. Does Mr. Huckabee then suggest we isolate children who have contracted AIDS, as was the case with Ryan? If so, who will pay for the care and treatment and housing and other necessities which will attach. Cannot be done, sir. Because we have spent nearly a trillion dollars in order to continue killing others based on a preemptive strike against another sovreign nation. Please, readers, write your congress-senate representatives/leaders. America has lost all sense of perspective and reason. Write your these people and suggest that we, the voters, are strongly considering recall campaigns because of poor, disengenious, wrongful and impotent acts of our leadership.

Which is about as logical as NJ forcing young kids to get flu shots when numerous studies have shown they are not effective for kids that age (and being loaded with mercury).

A quarantine for AIDS patients? Cuba has one. Looks like Huckabee and Fidel Castro are on the same page! Fascism in public health seems to work very well - Cuba has certainly controlled the spread of AIDS. President Huckabee: Four more years of Fascism! Yay!

Does this mean President Huckabee would defy the Miami Cubans and lift that idiotic embargo finally?

The quarantine is the same stand taken by the Rev. Louis Sheldon from The Family Research Council several years prior in the 80's. No matter what Huckabee says now, it won't wipe away his miserable track record on AIDS and those suffering from it. The only reason he seems to have taken a more conciliatory attitude towards AIDS now is because the disease has taken a toll on heterosexuals and most of the country now has more sense on the subject than he ever did. He couldn't care less about those Gay people with the disease. In 1992, Huckabee said, "I feel homosexuality is an aberrant, unnatural, and sinful lifestyle, and we now know it can pose a dangerous public health risk." The last thing we need in this country is some wide-eyed baptist minister taking George Bush's place. It would be like exchanging one religious fanatic for another and he would finish off this country for good.

Try to imagine a quarantine of people who are HIV positive. They would be deprived of their occupations, their families, their regular doctors and their homes. Not a healthy situation. A virtual prison, where the infected could be ignored.

oubliette: "secret dungeon reached only via trapdoor," 1819, from Fr. oubliette (14c.), from M.Fr. oublier "to forget," from O.Fr. oblider, from V.L. *oblitare, from L. oblitus, pp. of oblivisci "to forget" (see oblivion).

Clearly, Huckabee was thinking that he wanted to get the virus away from the uninfected, not about the best way to manage the disease.

Huckabee epitomizes the social conservative movement within the GOP and is the leader of their crusade now that Santorum and George Allen have been defeated. This disgusting excuse for a religious/political leader is now taking up the Revival Tent Republican's banner and will not stop until he is crushed in electoral defeat.

While Huckabee will not carry any states outside of the Bible Belt or the Deep South, he also cannot be ignored any longer. Huckabee will have to be on the ticket, more than likely as the VeeP candidate, with Romney as the standard bearer.

The Romney/Huckabee morality ticket will take the GOP down to one of the largest defeats in electoral history. The Republicans will have at least eight years to heed the words of Barry Goldwater: "If they suceed in establishing religion as a basic Republican Party tenent, they could do us in."

Huckabee appeals to knuckle-dragging Americans of which there are many.

Those who elected Bush, TWICE!
