Huckabee Won't "Recant" His Call For AIDS Quarantine

This morning on Fox News Sunday, former governor Mike Huckabee acknowledged that he previously advocated quarantining AIDS patients, but said he would not "recant" from that position.

In 1992, Huckabee wrote, "If the federal government is truly serious about doing something with the AIDS virus, we need to take steps that would isolate the carriers of this plague."

This morning, Huckabee first tried to deny his comments. "Chris, I didn't say that we should quarantine," he said. In fact, he said we "need[ed]" to isolate AIDS patients.

Pressed repeatedly by host Chris Wallace, however, Huckabee relented. "That is exactly what I said. I don't run from it, I don't recant from it. Would I say it a little differently today? Sure, in light of 15 years of additional knowledge and understanding, I would."

As if a quarantine would have worked. What a fantasy that is. We couldn't get people to be tested even! That would be tantamount to deporting each and every illegal alien.

The AIDS quarantine would accomplish two things. Humiliation and retribution for the sin of homosexuality.

When Huckabee is behind closed doors or among trusted friends he'll tell you quite matter of factly that Hurrican Katrina was a sign of the times and a reproach from God to hasten to straighten one's ways.

This full blown, born-again, evangelical Christian is a firm believer we are in the end times. Wailing and gnashing is the order of the day. Huckabee believes that AIDS has been delivered unto homosexuals by God in retribution for their wicked and wayward ways.

In Huck's world if your Gay your going straight to hell. Don't let's kid ourselves here. I call it Wide-Eyed. All the ones I've known seem to pop open at the eyeballs in spiritual paroxysm..­..As long as they don't roll back in the head I suppose.

Then he bats his eyelashes at you and you come to understand a great truth. Everybody's hustling and Huckabee's distaste for fags can be ratcheted up or down as needed on command and at a moment's notice.

This is a way slicker version of Pat Robertson who will have a wonderful career on the Satellite, perhaps even rivaling a Falwell. So there is no real downside for Mike Huckabee. All eggs. One basket. Sometimes it works. Like when you have an anti-homosexual prohibition on gay marriage that just happens to be on the ballot. Or something like it.
