Huckabee Won't "Recant" His Call For AIDS Quarantine

This morning on Fox News Sunday, former governor Mike Huckabee acknowledged that he previously advocated quarantining AIDS patients, but said he would not "recant" from that position.

In 1992, Huckabee wrote, "If the federal government is truly serious about doing something with the AIDS virus, we need to take steps that would isolate the carriers of this plague."

This morning, Huckabee first tried to deny his comments. "Chris, I didn't say that we should quarantine," he said. In fact, he said we "need[ed]" to isolate AIDS patients.

Pressed repeatedly by host Chris Wallace, however, Huckabee relented. "That is exactly what I said. I don't run from it, I don't recant from it. Would I say it a little differently today? Sure, in light of 15 years of additional knowledge and understanding, I would."

I love the quarantine fanatics, yes Leprosy is treatable today, just as TB once was standard quarantine, now one is quarantined for 10 day with TB till the medications make them in a status with not being communicable, as too what Jesus would do, yes he would cure them all, AIDS, TB, Leprosy, etc, unfortunately Huckabee wants too classify himself as Jesus like only too win the right wing neo cons votes whom by my view are nothing more than blind biblical goats, whom pay lip service too Jesus, teachings, funny how the party Huckabee is so proud of, republicans give tax cuts too the richest 2% of american society, with gusto and self righteousness, but in same breathe denigrate the welfare/poverty part of our society the proverbial poor as shifless, lazy, deserving of their poverty, but then they do have a good tactic too fool the righteous into believing they are compassionate christians by forcing them into those poverty level minimum wage jobs they refuse too raise too living wage since it would cut too deeply into their buddies corporate empires and wealth as well as their personal dividend/stock portfolios­..., yes the right has a good game, Jesus warned us of false prophets would preach in his name and we could identify them by what proceeds forth from their mouths..., Huckabee and his ilk do not fool me, buy their rhetoric if you will, but not me...

Of course they shouldn't isolate people infected with AIDS...

Rather, the government should make it illegal for a person with AIDS to have sex with anyone who doesn't have AIDS... or to donate blood (these may already be illegal things to do anyways).

Seriously, people obviously cannot operate on the "honor system" when it comes to things like AIDS... i say this because more and more people are getting infected, which means there are jerks out there with AIDS who either don't know, or are deliberately still going about their sex life without any conscience regarding spreading the disease.

So people who do have AIDS would indeed have to be monitored, so they don't spread it to anyone else via sex, blood, drugs, or other means of fluid transfer.

If a person had tuberculosis, chicken pox, mono-nucleosis, the flu, or other communicable diseases .. we would tell them to stay home... and in some cases we would force these people into quarrentine (as the tuburculosis guy was kept under surveillance).

Yeah, it sucks that society has to do these sorts of things, but AIDS carriers aren't stopping the disease on their own good will now are they?!

I'm not saying keep them all in a hospital somewhere, but these people MUST be forced to not have sex, and forced not to share bodily fluids with non-infected people.
