Redemption, at last, seems to have come for Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi.

The veteran Libyan leader began a five-day official visit to France today -- his first in more than three decades -- pitching his own heated Bedouin-style tent for receiving guests in the garden of the Paris mansion that houses visiting dignitaries.

Agree with SaintN - Libya had nothing to do with the Lockerbie Incident. The CIA was first on sight before even the Brits got there
looking for a specific package, then came the
TWA incident and the Egyptian Airliner. And one wonders what else is the government able to cover up? Those flimsy excuses and explanations don't cut it for all of us.

Although he's a dictator whose methods I don't agree with (use of torture, no freedom of press, killing his opponants, etc...), he's trying to keep the fundamentalists (like his older son who would like to grab the power) away.

Like Saddam in Iraq, he might not be perfect. Despite the money he gets from the ressources of his country, he hasn't succeeded in creating a good economy in Lybia. But he doesn't allow the fundies to run the place, his older son is in exile, and he wants his younger one, a moderate, to succeed him.

Seeing how Iraq will become a fundamentalist theocracy in which women won't have any rights left, Saddam, though not the good guy, wasn't the worst one, neither for the Iraqis, nor to deal with for us Westerners. Same here.

The real story about Gaddafi and the bombed Lockerbie flight was that the CIA actually planned and carried out that attack (look up on Google.Com)
The Libyan Govt, under international sanctions for years agreed to a billion dollar payout to Lockerbie victim's families just to lift those crippling sanctions.
Its never been proven that Gaddafi or Libya had anything at all to do with the Lockerbie tragedy but it has been placed square in the lap of the CIA!!!.

Considering what French colonialism did to Algeria and the on going deplorable treatment of their immigrant population, I dont think the Frogs have a any moral authority to be judging or pointing fingers at anyone.

Halliburton did business in Libya while we had them under trade sanctions and paid a fine for it Dick Chaney was CEO of Halliburton at the time as well. They sold pulse neutron generators which could be used to detonate nuclear weapons. In 1998 while at Halliburton he Dick gave speeches complaining abut the US sanctions against Iran and Libya. There was money to be made there by good old American corporate capitalism!

Now while drivers seat for our foreign policy Dick has found a much more profitable approach to foreign policy dealing with "Rouge Nations" than sanctions that seem to work well in the end. Start a war and take the money directly from American tax payers, just avoid taking it from the rich ones.

Money, money, money, money. Oil, oil, oil, oil. Kadafi has both. Scruples and human rights (on International Human Rights Day!) by the "new France" be damned! Way to go, Sarkosy.

Do you know you can equip your oil-guzzling clunker to electric by buying a kit from a company in California, named Electro Automotive

Hey, Muammar, remember all those innocent people your agents blew up over Scotland a few years back? Well, you sucked up to Bush, so forget about it. All is forgiven.

Of course, Gaddafi could pitch his tent on the "OTHER" Paris. That would be a public service, may earn him a Nobel Prize, and it will help Britney find time to get her life together.

Muammar al-Gaddafi won't find Paris a good place to pitch a tent, even if the tent has a floor. He will never find more than a few square inches that isn't covered with dog poop.
