The headline from the new CBS News/New York Times poll is certainly Mike Huckabee's stunning rise to the top of the GOP field nationally (he trails Rudy Giuliani by a statistically insignificant one point), and the tightening of the Democratic race (Hillary Clinton's lead over Barack Obama has shrunk from 28 points to 17). But there are plenty of interesting tidbits inside the numbers:

How funny, at the event everyone who was interviewed, said it did. CBS, you got to stop calling the Nielsen family. Didn't you see the black people there. Oh, they're not in your phone book, you caged them out.

I've been saying from the begining the effect of this was overhyped by the media and Obama fans. I still think it's a net positive, but only to the extent it gave a clear media attension advantage over Hillary for a good 3 or 4 day period. As for these rallies they were there to see Oprah for free. This will make people think more critically about if Obama is really the right person at this time.

Remember the show "Max Headroom"? They elected the president based on the ratings of his sponsering TV show on election night. Looks like it's coming true.

Oprah's weird new "Southern" accent freaked me out. She acted like she was talking to a bunch of hayseeds or something- very condescending and calculating- fake.

I can understand why Obama wanted her to do this but what I don't think he counted on was the clear Oprah backlash that is also happening in this country. A lot of us are sick to death of her as this poll testifies. I can also understand Oprah wanting to support her candidate, but she should have just made a statement and sent a check like Martha Stewart did for Clinton. After all, in this heated primary season, only a fraction of her viewers support Obama- can she risk alienating her audience base? (and how many of her viewers are Huckabee and Romney supporters?) Many see this as an abuse of power on Oprah's part.

The whole thing with her "stepping out of her pew" seemed like more of her self-help fuzzy-wuzzy nonsense (The Secret!), than any kind of clear political thinking. We are supposed to vote for Obama because he sees our inner self-worth according to Oprah the politico. She's probably off self-visualizing his win right now!

Bottom line: Oprah is a flake. She IS great at hugging Julia Roberts and giving away cars though.

No impact? I'll take it further.....I say it will have a negative impact on the Obama's winning the nomination. Here's why... Oprah has admitted that she hasn't voted in a presidential election in the past 20 years. Suddenly, she is not only backing a candidate, who just happens to be Black but she is out there trying to use her "celebrity status" to win him votes. Be it true or not, could some people see her suddden interest in presidential politics as reverse discrimination? For years she doesn't even take the time to get her "arse" to the polls to vote and now she is trying to tell others to vote for this particular candidate. Why does she think he is the best person for the job? It can't be his experience because of all the criticisms thrown his way, that is the one that resonates. Or could it simply be that once people have gain money and fame, the next "thing" they seek is the acquistion of power....she has had the great ability to influence women, in particular, concerning many matters. But, none of those matters has been as important as selecting a President, especially, at this moment in our country's history. I say to other women, know the facts and read all you can about the candidates, and then make your own decision. You may decide to vote for Obama or you may decide that there is another candidate who could better represents you and this government. If nothing else, this election offers women an opportunity to play a very important role in the person selected...be that person be African-American or a female.
Oprah is a wonderful person who has battled many personal battle and won most of them, but she isn't omnipotent or omniscient. She needs to leave the political rhetoric to those who have made American politics and government their life's work and passion.
Personally, I don't care who wins on the democratic side.....I just can't wait to see Bush and company EXIT! I am sick of the corruption.

Does anyone honestly expect someone to answer yes when asked if the Oprah Effect will make them vote for Obama or if it will be possible she'll make them take a second look at him?

People of course are going to say it won't matter but that is a lie for the most part. It will yet no one actually wants to admit it to anyone else let alone themselves. Just the way people are. They want to act like they will make up their own mind but people in general are able to be influenced by outside factors. They are afraid or most likely afraid of what others will think of them if they admit certain things.

For two days the national and local news led with Obama and Oprah and cheering throngs of people. We are still talking about it two days later. Is anyone polling the bounce Hillary got by schlepping her mother and daughter around Iowa?

And of course, we find the SAME kind of results as the FIRST poll posted here on HuffPost about the Oprah effect in Obama's campaign; voters could NOT care less if Oprah stumps for Obama. She will NOT impact the way voters decide to vote. -Looks like Oprah gets overruled on asking the public to overlook Obama's lack of experience. So there it is folks, even a BILLIONAIRE can't impact the choices for voters.

-Hate to say I told you so, but ...

1% in a close race is a lot. Please do not be fooled. This is why Bill is upset with Hillary's staff.

It is a shame that we must speculate on the power of the endorsement of any celebrity for any candidate. We need to do a better job of educating Americans in the vital skills of critical thinking, so that voters would be more likely to make up their own minds using their own analytical powers and less swayed by endorsements, advertising, and mumbo-jumbo.

yes, it's all getting curiouser & curiouser...

by the third state, Oprah was adding extra syllables to everything...

a different "pew"...a different "god"....

it's scary, actually...we think Obama is "new" but he's playing on the old time religion...

jesus.

Only 1% says the rally of Obama with Oprah make them more likely to vote for Obama, but 14% says less than likely to vote for Obama. The rally of Oprah for Obama, produced a negative impact instead of positive. There's nothing surprising here, its been known for a long time, any celebrities that endorsed a candidate and go on the campaign trail, that person will lose the vote. The reason for that is plain and simple, people like Oprah who buy $1,600.00 bedsheet without batting an eyelash is out of touch how the real people live eking out a living, squeezing every dollar they make to fit their budget. In fact Oprah was surprised millions of Americans don't have health insurance. Oprah is a good talk show, she do all the talking, all the guest has to do is listen, or she endorse products of her friends for her viewers to buy.

When President Bill Clinton go out and campaign for his wife, 44% says they're more likely to vote for Hillary. Even those who were angry with Bill Clinton because of the scandal still look at him favorably. Bill Clinton has higher favorable ratings from candidates of both parties. That says a LOT what kind of President he was. Clinton don't have to bring the rah rah stuff to bring and convince people to vote for his wife.
