A new Gallup Poll finds that better than one in six Americans, including similar numbers of Republicans and Democrats, indicate they would not support their party's nominee for president if that person were a Mormon.

The poll was conducted from Dec. 6 to 9, immediately following the major speech by Republican presidential candidate Gov. Mitt Romney, in which he addrssed voter concern about his Mormon religion. The percentage of Republicans who now rule out voting for a Morman, 18%, is just one point lower than it was in March.

But he's tall (ish) and never seems to have a bad hair day.

For heaven's sake, he's almost like a poor man's Warren Beatty. Just imagine how his profile might look on a newly minted nickel!

Who cares if Mormons believe that Satan was actually Jesus Christ's mother-in-law. (Or whatever that zany Huckabee fella just accused them of believing.) That was like two-thousand years ago!

And by the way, Hillary Clinton is not very tall, in case no one has bothered to notice.

If that fact can effectively destroy any hope for Kucinich, the same disqualification must be applied to Ms. Clinton as well.

Right?

Better a Mormon than a southern Baptist Bible beater.

I won't vote for him because of his political positions, but if a Mormon can't be elected because of his (uniquely American!) religion, what about all the trust we give Jews (and others unconditionally committed to Israel)?
What about those Evangelicals who support Zionism because they believe all Jews must be in Palestine berfore the Second Coming (and the destruction of Jews who fail to become Christian)? I realize that there is no religious qualification for office, but there is enough something there to scare something out of me, and it isn't a vote. But I see no objection from the masses.

His biggest liability is the (R). Belonging to the wrong cult simply compounds the problem. Not to worry. He's going nowhere.

Des Moines, IA (December 11, 2007) " The Biden for President Campaign announced the launch of its new television ad, "Action," which will begin airing across Iowa tomorrow. In the 30-second spot, Sen. Biden asks Iowans to cast their support for a candidate with proven leadership, experience, and most importantly, action on the biggest challenges facing our country.

The ad points out that while promises are easily made, Joe Biden is the candidate with the longest record of promises kept. The Biden Plan for Iraq has received the bipartisan support of over 75 U.S. Senators, not to mention scores of Iraqi leaders, foreign affairs experts, and other public officials. And when Pakistan erupted in a state of crisis several weeks ago, Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf called Joe Biden first"not President Bush. Sen. Biden concludes: "You don"t have to guess what I"d do as president. Just look at what I"ve done."

"If Iowans believe campaign funds and celebrity will fix the debacle in Iraq, put the economy on track, and provide health care and education for America"s children, they should support another candidate," said Biden for President Campaign Manager Luis Navarro. "But I"m confident that Iowans know what I know: our problems will require experience and leadership from Day One. Empty slogans will be no match for proven action on caucus night."

Usually I avoid Nazi-Republican analogies, but seriously, that National Review cover with Twit Romney is Third-Reich imagery all the way. And if you've ever read the reactionary shit on their blog, that only reinforces it. Chilling indeed. Very much like Pat Buchanan on Lou Dobbs's show last night, getting big wet kisses from the Demagogic Dobbs. Who's next, Lou--David Duke?

Romney said ,if people don't vote for him because of his Religious Faith...*pause *strike a pose* pause*..."so be it"

(Mittler this would be the "so be it" portion of the election.)

BIDEN: Per NBC/NJ"s Carrie Dann, Biden becomes the last of the six Democratic campaigns playing in Iowa to go up on TV in the state. In the ad, Biden speaks directly into the camera and says, "Being president isn't the same thing as running for president. When this campaign is over, political slogans like 'Experience' and 'Change' will mean absolutely nothing. The next president has to act." He then touts the bipartisan approval in the Senate of his Iraq plan and that he spoke with the Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf before Bush did after Musharraf declared emergency rule earlier this year. "You don"t have to guess what I"ll do as president," Biden says to close the ad. "Just look at what I"ve done."

The worst thing is that Mitt is only a Mormon for purposes of dodging the Vietnam draft. Now that he's running for president, we see him distancing himself from the tenets of Mormonism at every opportunity.
