AP:

Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee, an ordained Southern Baptist minister, asks in an upcoming article, "Don't Mormons believe that Jesus and the devil are brothers?"

The article, to be published in Sunday's New York Times Magazine, says Huckabee asked the question after saying he believes Mormonism is a religion but doesn't know much about it. His rival Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, is a member of the Mormon church, which is known officially as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

A passage from the Bible that The Huckster and the other phony Baptist "Preachers" never refer to in their mega-churches:

Matt 23:1-5 "Then Jesus spoke to the multitudes and to His disciples, saying: "The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat. Therefore whatever they tell you to observe, that observe and do, but do not do according to their works; for they say, and do not do. For they bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. But all their works they do to be seen by men."

I suspect Huckabee is a true believer, while Romney is playing the faith card for its political value. I doubt very much that Huckabee will give Romney a pass on the issue, nor brook any faith-touting rival carpetbagging on his own claims. That's the way they are. Let the games begin. Giuliani or McCain may yet emerge as the flawed, but viable, anareligionist.

I'm fed up with all this religion nonsense. We were founded as a nation under God -- and there is only one God! He is not Mormon, nor is He Evangelical! Which is why we have thrived on separation of church and state. We were governed in such a way that we were left to believe in our own way, or not believe, as we choose. It's amazing, but when you talk religion these days, the word that scares people the most is Christians. The "Christians" have lost their way. Get rid of the religious arguments, leave those to the zealots in the Middle East, and get back to the issues!

1) Jews don't recognize Jesus as the Son of God.

2)Protestants don't recognize the pope as the Ruler of the Church.

3)Baptists don't recognize each other in a liquor store.

If two sons of the same father can be considered "brothers", then yes, according to Judeo-Christian doctrine, which of course is incorporated in the Mormon faith, Jesus and Satan are brothers, for each were conceived by God.

I'm not sure what all the fuss is about here, except that Huckabee should know better if he's in fact a minister of his faith.

The GOP is trying to gather the religious Moral Majority under its wing again, and strategically speaking, Huck's comments will cause quite an uproar among this group of blind and stupid people. (Just look what "belief voting" brought us in 2000 and 2004!)

Geoffrey Stone wrote an excellent article dealing with this core issue to "the faithful"-- WAS America founded on Christianity?

Here on HuffPo, we get a glimpse into this madness, with pontificating trolls (you know who you are, so shut your yaps!). Truly, the other trolls groan and bite their knuckles when their pontificating brothers spew this insanity, but they usually groan in silence. (I find this entertaining as hell!)

But Huck's team KNOWS this, and accenting differences is important to re-mobilize the GOP's religious Right AWAY from Mittens, and coral them back into the massive bowel movement they were before.

My Gawd but these Christians are a hoot. Everybody knows that Joshua (Jesus to you greeks) had a sister named Lucinda, who was in fact the Devil. However the men of the time period couldn't handle a woman in any position of authority so they changed her name to Lucifer and made HIM the Devil

This is a real pressing issue in our country isn't it????? What some other religion does or doesn't believe. With all the pressing problems that have developed in this country over the last 7 years, people living at or below poverty level, homelessness, people losing homes, illegal immigration, our decaying infrastructure, no health care for half of American's. All these to yokels can do is harp on religion? With nonsense like this, my decision to leave Republican's behind 20 years ago because they didn't reflect my views anymore was the wisest decision I ever made. Our state has a Mormon Senator who is a Democrat. As long as I don't hear about his religion I will continue to vote for him.

What slime, I am as offended by Hucklebuck's slam of the Mormon religion as I am by Rommney using his defense of his religion to pander to the right wing fundies that disparage his beliefs, in order to claim essentially that you have to be a Christian to be an American. The Republican presidential slate is full of losers whose habit of wallowing in slop as they have done every since pimping the country with the fraudulent "contract with America" can now feed on and cannibalize each other. A fitting end for such pigs.

That can't be right! We all know Bill Clinton is the Devil. That means Roger is really Jesus. Praise be to Roger.

These two wackjobs sound just like the Mulahs we complain about in Iraq, Afghanistan, etc.

The only difference is that "our guys" spout off wearing suits instead of robes.

I wish we could send these two to Antarctica or Siberia but that wouldn't be very American would it?

Not that any of this even matters to the very REAL problems facing America. These theological debates are a waste of time even in their proper domain (since neither side can demonstrate or falsify their position). But, it is contemptible when this kind of nonsense consumes crowds out issues that actually affect Americans.

With all that said, Romney and Huckabee are equal kooks and fools. Romney believing that Satan and Jesus are related are no more bizarre than believing that dead people come back alive being dead for several days.

It's all superstitution nonsense. The only "upper-hand" Huckabee might have is that he happens to be parrotting the conventional superstitution that has perculated for 2,000 years in Western Culture. Once upon atime, Zeus devotees had the benefit of belonging to the "in religion."
