AP:

Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee, an ordained Southern Baptist minister, asks in an upcoming article, "Don't Mormons believe that Jesus and the devil are brothers?"

The article, to be published in Sunday's New York Times Magazine, says Huckabee asked the question after saying he believes Mormonism is a religion but doesn't know much about it. His rival Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, is a member of the Mormon church, which is known officially as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

It sure was a sneaky thing ole Huck did to Mitt.

He found a backdoor way to introduce some of the crazier Mormon beliefs into the discussion about Romney's suitability as a Republican President candidate. He was pretty slick about it too. He waited until the interview was almost over and then he slyly added this little gem at the end, with a wink at the interviewer, knowing perfectly well it would be reported.

He didn't state it outright, he asked it in the form of a question, like he was remarking about something odd to a friend.

Alternate, but possibly not as effective options, would been "hey, what's the deal with the special underwear" or "isn't there something about a visit from an angel with a funny name that no one's ever heard of" or "aren't those Mormon dudes allowed to have a bunch of wives, I think I heard something about that" or even "Mormon, Muslim, they each have six letters, what's up with that".

But Huck picked the right one because most Christian believers will jump all over any suggestion that Christ and Satan are just two different sides of the same coin.

Yeah, that Huck is sure going to have some fences to mend before he settles into his VP offices in the White House in a Mitt Romney presidency.

Don’t you just love it when the Mullah’s can’t get along with one another?
Tolerance? What the hell is that?

It's really a shame that an issue like this is anywhere NEAR our government. I wish for a speedy end to the American Theocratic Extremism, and a return to good government, for all people.

Both of these clowns can kiss my a**.

What a despicable thing for Huckabee to say. This so-called "preacher" is resorting to dirty tricks and devlish gamesmanship. This is the type of nonsense that happens when you allow religious zealots to gain political power. Religion and politics don't mix. Our nation's founders understood this. Apparently, some Republicans can't seem to grasp the concept and the role that religious freedom plays in our constitutional democracy.

This is not to say that the values that one derives from one's religious experience should be suppressed. The understanding that our Founders incorporated into our Constitution was that all people of all religions -- without exception (including atheism and agnosticism) -- should be free to practice their religion "in private" and without fear of condemnation from outside or from political forces. It's a simple concept really and one that has played an essential role in our version of a free and open democracy.

Unfortunately for many of us, this country is full of religious kooks who are looking for candidates who reflect their extremist thinking. Personally, I believe in the religion of goodness and generosity. I do attend church because it is a family activity that I enjoy - great music, fun gatherings - and it is a church that spends a pretty large amount of cash each year on helping those whom Jesus actually considered his true flock - the sick, lonely, and poor in OUR community. Having been raised in a home where we were taught to respect others' beliefs, one strict religious doctrine grates against my open and liberal heart.

Just another example of the religiously insane. Why should anyone who lives in the fantasy land of religion receive serious consideration. The bible is fiction and hate literature. The entire crop of Republicrats (as far as I can tell only one party exists in this country) running for office keeps me in a constant state of nausea - except for Dennis Kucinich. All these Republicrats are active or passive authoritarians. We need another party of Progressives.

How about we ask Huckabee if he isn't in league with the Devil?? How about all those gifts him and his wife accepted?? Maybe legal, but morally lacking. As for the LDS church and what they believe, who gives a shit. I don't, I don't base my vote on someones religious beliefs. I base my vote on what they stand for. Neither Mitt, Huckabee, Rudy they all leave alot to be desired. None will get my vote.

Did you know Mormonism has never been an issue in a US campaign before?

Never. No big deal.

I think it's so great that conservatives have decided to "debate" it.

For a long time, I have joked that conservatives didn't so much want to turn Iraq into the US, instead they'd like to make the US more like that Shangri-La they created in Iraq.

It's looking less and less like a joke.

Huckabee is a kook. All a kook has to do to avoid detection is dress conventionally.

Anyone who actually BELIEVES in the utterly ridiculous, such as the existence of a "devil", is INSANE and should not be running for President. When are people going to wake up out of the "god trance"? UGH. Just the IDEA of a grown man using the word "devil" is embarrassing. Huckabee should be embarrassed that he still thinks like a 4th grader.

And Elvis didst appear above Graceland, and didst I see Buddy Holly on his right side, and The Big Bopper on his left. And he didst smite all the loony candidates with all their idiotic ideas.
And didst the masses then gather around him, and didst all bow before him.
And He spaketh:
"Thank yuh very much!"
