Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee's 15-year-old comments that AIDS patients should have been isolated have so alarmed the mother of Ryan White, an Indiana teenager whose life-ending battle with AIDS in the 1980s engrossed the nation, that she has asked for a meeting.

"I would be very willing to meet with them," the former Arkansas governor responded Tuesday while campaigning in western Iowa. "I would tell them we've come a long way in research, in treatment."

Huckabee is the likely republican candidate, as a democrat I despise the man as modern day pharisee/hypocrite whom Jesus will not know on judgment day, he preaches lip service too Jesus teachings, but his actions and beliefs prove he is like the biblical pharisee's, who used religion too gain power & wealth, and despised Jesus teachings of mercy, anti-death penalty, kindness, forgiveness, caring for the poor, hungry, naked those sick and in prison, Huckabee unfortunately was a understudy too a televangelist [modern day false prophets who preach prosperity religion], and he is a abomination before god/jesus, and judgment day will be the day him and his republican ilk, have too answer for their blind biblical goat activities.....that will be truly a "awe and shock day for the hypocrites and warmongers of today...

Des Moines, IA (December 11, 2007) – The Biden for President Campaign announced the launch of its new television ad, “Action,” which will begin airing across Iowa tomorrow. In the 30-second spot, Sen. Biden asks Iowans to cast their support for a candidate with proven leadership, experience, and most importantly, action on the biggest challenges facing our country.

The ad points out that while promises are easily made, Joe Biden is the candidate with the longest record of promises kept. The Biden Plan for Iraq has received the bipartisan support of over 75 U.S. Senators, not to mention scores of Iraqi leaders, foreign affairs experts, and other public officials. And when Pakistan erupted in a state of crisis several weeks ago, Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf called Joe Biden first—not President Bush. Sen. Biden concludes: “You don’t have to guess what I’d do as president. Just look at what I’ve done.”

“If Iowans believe campaign funds and celebrity will fix the debacle in Iraq, put the economy on track, and provide health care and education for America’s children, they should support another candidate,” said Biden for President Campaign Manager Luis Navarro. “But I’m confident that Iowans know what I know: our problems will require experience and leadership from Day One. Empty slogans will be no match for proven action on caucus night.”

American politics is insane. If Huckabee smoked a joint 15 years ago or had sex with a man, there would be no question about his judgement. His candidacy would be finished. However, being dangerously ill-informed or maliciously political about matters of public health and calling for isolation of thousands of non-threatening civilians still qualifies him for debate about his judgement?

beachykeen & Birdman:

I wanted to point out to you; as you said the risk of getting the disease from infected blood or blood-by-products is less than it used to be. But every now and then some new problems crops up.

It wasn't that long ago (maybe a few months) there were 4 cases of HIV infection in people who received organ transplants in a Chicago hospital. The organs/donor were tested properly by all known protocols, and no HIV was detected. The problem? Once infected, it may take 3 weeks for the virus to show itself; in the meantime the donors organs have been transplanted into a healthy person and infecting them with HIV.

More research, finer testing, will solve this problem someday...hopefully soon!

There is NO substitution for taking responsibility - early detection can be the difference between life and death. PLEASE people...get tested!!!

You know, it doesn't matter whether we are republican or democrat...christian or not...HIV/AIDS is NOT political problem or a religious problem. It's a TRUE health problem that can be prevented, or at least greatly reduced by prevenative measures. I work with AIDS patients. I don't have AIDS. You have to share body fluids with someone infected. The fact is...nowadays, 1 in 4 HIV-infected people (in the US) do NOT know that they are infected. Out of the remaining 3, 1 person knows and would NEVER predispose you to his/her viral condition. The two remaining..well, they are questionable. They either are so drug addicted that they don't care, or they are in denial and don't think that you would get the infection. That is where PERSONAL PROTECTION...AND PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY comes into play. Protect yourself! Don't assume that pretty, fashionable girl at the bar is NOT infected, and likewise, don't assume that handsome, well-to-do man driving the jag...that he isn't infected. Never assume! Have a few dates...get to know them. If that isn't ok, then USE A CONDOM..AND USE IT UNTIL YOU KNOW THAT PERSON WELL ENOUGH TO NOT USE IT. Beyond that, we should all know by now to not share needles. I'm assuming, for the most part, that people reading this blog aren't out on the street sharing needles. If you are...READ THIS CAREFULLY. Used needles will cost you your life!

Huckabee isn't he problem...he really isn't. We need to take responsibility for ourselves. Period. Thank you for letting me speak.

Huckabee just got some new supporters, the "minute men", whom are nothing more than some retired, nothing else too do, racists/bigots who recently harrassed a bunch of hispanic children in San Diego, CA, going too church, terrifying them, it does not surprise me that these types would find him their man....., Huckabee is as far from god/jesus as one can be, bible speaks of these false prophets, whom pay lip service too Jesus/Gods teachings, only as too how it furthers their ambitions for money, power, etc, Huckabee would have the devil himself as a running mate if it would win him the presidency..., I venture too bet his true master is not Jesus, but the anti-christ, since Huckabees theology is more in tune with the biblical pharisee's whom Jesus was a opposite of...

Ryan's mother knows a universities' worth of information compared to this religious ingrate on the subject of AIDS. Please meet with her, Huckleberry, don't be afraid because it's scary stuff, have the courage to make the meeting. People like you need to learn so much so fast. People of science (like me,ret.) and people who suffer so much (like Ryan) don't have the luxury of whispering words to the empty air and calling the job done.

And this is the "compassionate" candidate?

As for Happyfella, when I used to make nasty anti-gay cracks to WHEN I WAS IN THE CLOSET!!!

So my friend, "come out, come out, wherever you are!"

The past - which is a part of the history of the world Mike Huckabee speaks of - included the non isolation of the victems of Polio. It was the 1950's
And Mike Huckabee was around then. So unless he has the memory of a goldfish - he would be in a position to know.
Polio was national health crisis, a terror for parents - mysterious, uncurable. And it went on for years.

What an imbecile. The public health information about AIDS hasn't changed since 1992. In '92, we knew what caused AIDS and how it was spread.
However, I do think this makes an effective case for quarantining ignorant Baptist politicians.

Talking to fanatical Christians (like Huckabee) is just like talking to fanatical Muslims... or fanatical Jews... Scientologists.... or Drunks!
You can't make any progress because they are mentally, spiritually & humanely deficient.
They are sheep... incapable of true, logical thought.
Ms White is wasting her time.
