In the months before announcing his bid for the Republican presidential nomination, former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts contributed tens of thousands of dollars of his personal fortune to several conservative groups in a position to influence his image on the right.

Last December, a foundation controlled by Mr. Romney made contributions of $10,000 to $15,000 to each of three Massachusetts organizations associated with major national conservative groups: the antiabortion Massachusetts Citizens for Life, Massachusetts Citizens for Limited Taxation and the Christian conservative Massachusetts Family Institute.

It just shows how media is not as unbiased as they tell us they are. I only bought the national review once by mistake. Never again made that one! Mitt and the other with big money and big corporations have bought much along the way. The money is only looked at and counted by overseers when it goes into the candidates bank. The money spent to buy support or endorsements by others seems the be well hidden or not looked at at all. It would be a better world for us if there was even money given to all so we would not have to be put into the polls and voting booths based on what money was spent but who the candidate really is and what they would attempt to do for us. No one can promise they will do anything once in office.

Curiously, as someone who wanders around the better class of political sites, blogs, and scandal mongers towards the right, like Politico, Real Clear Politics, Drudge and the WSJ, none of them have mentioned or posted a link to this NY Times article. I hope the word gets out, especially in Iowa. I think an awful lot of folks see through this rather shameless man, or is a chameleon? On the other hand, he's smooth, rich, will say anything, will spend anything to get elected. The other R candidates are either seriously flawed, disorganized, or unfunded. With his appeal to those who want someone squeaky clean, to the business class(and their wallets), now to the right; and with his own fortune which can toss in $75 million: I believe he will be the nominee and that he will be a strong candidate for President. I am concerned!

Just $10K, huh?

Reminds me of Major Charles Emerson Winchester on MASH (the TV version), who lost hundreds in a poker game but brushed it off by saying he spent more on his midnight snacks back in the States.

Hey gang, since Mitt said that he would be true to his religeon has anyone done any research in the Mormon beliefs.

How about this shocker. For a woman to get into heaven a man has to offer her his hand and assist her into the promised land. Sounds kinda like how the Muslims feel about their women doesn't it.

Wonder how Mitt's wife would feel to know that she can't get into heaven by herself, she has to have a mans help. Maybe she wouldn't care but subsconsciously it has to affect the way Mitt thinks about women.

Romney will be the Republican nominee. I think he will be the greatest Christian president this country has ever had. He is our leader--we will follow. To me, he is like a God! This is a Christian nation. No new taxes! Go Mitt!

Buying elections is soooo expensive! Candidates seem able and willing to pay for it. Lord knows they sure can't earn it!

Its not the first time he bought popularity...after the recent CNN/YouTube debate, Republicans in the Tampa Bay area held a straw poll, and his handful of supporters bought a bunch of votes for him to win.

"Romney got 893 votes, besting second-place Ron Paul's 534.

In fact, Paul supporters dominated the crowd, which reached an estimated 1,000 people. Tickets for votes cost $20 each.

So how did Romney do it?

"I voted 20 times," Derek Gyongzois, 38, of St. Petersburg exclaimed after casting ballots.

He said he works as a volunteer for the Romney campaign (and begged a reporter not to print his 20-vote tally). Did he buy the tickets?

"I don't have that kind of money," Gyongzois said."
