Rep. Jim McDermott says he is no Grinch, even though he voted against Christmas.

The Democrat from Washington state says he was protesting an expected veto of a children's health insurance bill when he voted against a resolution recognizing the importance of Christmas.

"While the Republicans are passing a resolution celebrating Christmas, the president was vetoing health care for children. There's a little bit of irony going on around here," McDermott said Thursday.

Got to agree with you, Jim. What the hell does Christmas have to do with anything, except consumerism? Kinda like every other holiday in this country, although, I like having the day off with pay. Does that make me a bastard? Yeah, I think so, too.

Saw a (biased) review at
http://momacress.livejournal.com/88307.html
from someone who read all three resolutions. My take is that they are all a waste of time as are most of the resolutions.
Numbers of "Present" and "No Vote" counts are interesting. A large number of Republicans chose those outs for the Ramadan and Diwali resolutions. None had the spine to vote "No". The "No Vote"s for the Christmas resolution were about evenly split between Democrats and Republicans.

If the barbaric European horde and their American descendants find one day a year when they celebrate peace and love and respect for the wretched of the Earth (at least those of the same Faith), even if it leads to my grandchildren spinning their dreidels under a pagan-inspired Christmas tree waiting for pagan-inspired Santa Claus to bring them more toys than they need in a lifetime (many from Grampa), more power to it, even if it requires hocus pocus to get the barbaric horde and their descendants to forget condemning "dirty, barbaric" individual beheadings and praising "sanitary, civilized" bunker buster mass killings in foreign lands for a day and celebrate simple humaneness.

This was an important vote in Congress -- as important as the one declaring French fries to be Freedom fries because the French were right on Iraq and refused to participate in our leaders' (not troops) act of national cowardice in invading a country which was no threat to us and had 1/11th of our population, 1/1000 of our economy and military. It was like a trained, professional martial artist in his or her prime using, in addition to his skills sophisticated weapons to beat a ten year old and whining the ten year old is a terrorist if s/he gets in a lucky shot at the martial artist's privates. Such a lesson of peace and love.

It is to me a bit scary that a vote for christmas was even presented to congress. what is the purpose of this vote, future mud slinging? as we watch congress and the bush administration dilly dally on SCHIP, war funds, etc,it saddens me to know that precious time was wasted on this ridiculous piece of legislation that will not serve the common good of this country.

Voting on Christmas? And only 9 people voted against it? What a shame.

Let me clarify more clearly that Sfc local T.V. would not ,I repeat, would not put on TV my 97 lawsuit of scarce, few foods, jobs resources in U.S. So uncompassionately cruel. It came out wrong on above Dec 15, 07 post I just typed on. Eva Hart Christian Army 62-70 670 Eddy St. Sfc 94109

TO: Both Houses of Congress Republicans or ConNOSERVatives? Democrats or Demograts?
December 15, 2007 Ref: Above Dec 14,2007 post Continued.

In my above post of December 14, 2007 I mentioned that Elliot Liebow,Jewish Anthropologist, who wrote a book in 93 which confirmed my Lawsuit of 1997 of scarce food, jobs resources in U.S and of which all Courts including Wash DC Supreme Court, docket 5833 refused my case of scarce, few food, jobs resources in U.S.

Mr. Liebow did a study too of homeless women and concludes that homeless are not violent. Rabbi Charles Kroloff states in his book,"Most homeless are victims of crime, not the perpetrators with foreward by Jimmy Carter of book." In Mr. Liebow's 93 book he states," The Director of a shelter says,"If apply Fairness and consistent Fairness rules then a shelter and staff can be safe." At times there is violence and shelters are unsafe as mentioned on T.V. which all ignored and proceeded to cut benefits for homeless year after year. You ignored my case on radio and here on the internet, radio, TV locally would put my 97 few food, jog resources on T.V. and even now some National Blues News won't put on TV. Now your stupidly stuck with politicians not ending Iraq War and taking your money. You deserve what you get. You don't deserve to even touch a Christmas Resolution of 07. Christ Serves Others and said it's Greatness to Serve others. Silent Night. Holy Night. All is calm. All is bright. Jesus redeems All. Eva Hart Christian Army 62-70 670 Eddy St. Sfc 94109

Obviously emboldened by the lock-step acquiescence of Congress on his earlier resolution, check out this exchange between King and Colmes on Hannity & Colmes:

COLMES: Should they be taught Christianity, should every child learn Christianity?

KING: I think they should learn it. If you"re going to learn American history, you cannot teach it without teaching Christianity.

COLMES: It"s one thing to teach the history of how religion may have been part of our growth as a country. It"s another thing to actually teach the tenets of a religion. As if the people going to school should learn the tenets of a particular faith. You"re not saying they should learn the tenets of Christianity, are you?

KING: I think they need to understand the tenets of the Christian faith and other faiths that have affected the history of this country.

How many different ways can you spell theocracy?

Previously posted on another site:

Why has no one asked King about his reasons for NOT voting for his own bill, at the same time lambasting those who voted against it?
And why has the lapdog media not even bothered to ask the question?

In addition, on the above-referenced website, if you count the number of representatives who abstained from voting, you'll find that more than half of those who did so (21 of 40) are Republicans.

People should be ashamed to support Steven King on anything. In a way this resolution is no different than supporting National Popcorn Day or any other silly resolution made in politics all the time. Except that King voted against recognition of other religious holidays. That makes this a bigoted resolution.

I'm appalled that this was even voted on, it is kind of like a building is burning down the firemen are sitting around having coffee and donuts, no offense to fireman meant by that comment. The issue here is this was a total waste of time, time that could have been spent constructivly. Lastly where does this government get off on voting on religious things? I mean if they want to say the 4th of July is important or Veterens day, neither of these has any religious connotations, but Christmas that is exactly what it represents. What happened to freedom of religion in this country? What percentage of people in this country celebrate christmas, 60-70 percent? So these bozo's say that 40 to 30 percent of the citizens of this country do not matter? I say that every senator that wasted his time voting on this issue should be shown the door come next election, there are far more importnat things to consider in this country and as long as we as a people allow this major waste of time we are doomed.

The Democrat Liberal War on Christmas continues.....pretty soon it will OK with Liberals to burn Christian and Jewish Churches, but hands of the Masques.

And here I thought the congressional investigations of baseball and steroids now scheduled for this year could not be topped when it came to stupidity and a waste of time. Oh gee, me of little faith of what our current government is capable of!

But he supported House resolutions this fall to recognize the Islamic holiday of Ramadan and the festival of Diwali, celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains.
