Bill Shaheen Resigns As Hillary Clinton's New Hampshire Co-Chair

Bill Shaheen, Hillary Clinton's New Hampshire Co-Chair, has announced he will step down from that position. His resignation comes in the wake of remarks he made concerning Clinton rival Barack Obama's past drug use, and his insinuation Obama not only used, but also dealt drugs.

In an email statement Shaheen wrote:

"I would like to reiterate that I deeply regret my comments yesterday . . . . I have made the personal decision that I will step down as the Co-Chair of the Hillary for President campaign . . . . we must all get back to electing the best qualified candidate who has the record of making change happen in this country."

Bill Shaheen is the husband of former New Hampshire governor and 2008 U.S. Senate candidate Jeanne Shaheen.

What really bothers me is that Hilary could have been so stupid as to buy the argument that "Shaheen will take the rap and resign when this backfires".

Everybody knows Shaheen is a very experienced guy who doesn't do anything like this without direct authorization from the top. Shaheen has been in politics a long time.

It all stinks of low life politics. Hilary says yeah Shaheen you go out there and if it works ok, if it doesn't then I fire you and say I never authorized it.

Do we want such a person as our President??????

Fall guy for a bad campaign decision. I'm sure he didn't make these remarks without authorization from the candidate.

On the upside, I hope this incident will keep the campaigns focused on the issues. We'll get enough of this smear crap from the Republicans once the nominees are chosen.

doesnt really matter if everyone resigns, just like with Bush's team. Gonzo, Rummy, and others have resigned too. Bush is still what he is, and Hillary will still be what she is. You cant tell me that she didnt know what was going on, just like you cant tell me Bush didnt know what was going on.

What continues to amaze is how reportedly smart people do the dumbest things. Why would one even go down that road? And if Hillary really wanted to come across as presidential, she would clearly, unequivocally, and publicly denounce and apologize for such nonsense. It's the only way to assure the public that, after 7 years, the adults'll actually be in charge again.

I told everyone about this. If this would take Obama down in the polls and it work he would still have a job. It backfired now she has to fire him to distance herself from him. She has to make herself look good. It was her idea believe me. This guy would not do something this dumb.
