O'Reilly Declares Victory Over The "Taliban-Like Oppression" Of Christmas

On "The O'Reilly Factor" last night, Bill O'Reilly — who boasts that he's leading the fight against the secular progressive "War On Christmas" (and who one columnist dubbed as leading the "crusaders for creches" ) — declared victory over the "Taliban-like oppression" of Christmas.

Because Bill O'Reilly saved Christmas, "all over the country, the sights and sounds of Christmas are on display. Few department stores are telling employees not to say, 'Merry Christmas.'"

And to those of you who think religion has no place in the public square, Christmas Crusader O'Reilly has seven words for you: "Joseph Stalin, Mao, and Fidel salute you!"

Letter from Jesus about Christmas –

Dear Children,
It has come to my attention that many of you are upset that folks are taking My name out of the season. Maybe you've forgotten that I wasn't actually born during this time of the year and that it was some of your predecessors who decided to celebrate My birthday on what was actually a time of pagan festival. Although I do appreciate being remembered anytime.

How I personally feel about this celebration can probably be most easily understood by those of you who have been blessed with children of your own. I don't care what you call the day. If you want to celebrate My birth, just GET ALONG AND LOVE ONE ANOTHER.

Now, having said that let Me go on. If it bothers you that the town in which you live doesn't allow a scene depicting My birth, then just get rid of a couple of Santas and snowmen and put in a small Nativity scene on your own front lawn. If all My followers did that there wouldn't be any need for such a scene on the town square because there would be many of them all around town.

Stop worrying about the fact that people are calling the tree a holiday tree, instead of a Christmas tree. It was I who made all trees. You can remember Me anytime you see any tree. Decorate a grape vine if you wish: I actually spoke of that one in a teaching, explaining who I am in relation to you and what each of our tasks were. If you have forgotten that one, look up John 15: 1 - 8.

If you want to give Me a present in remembrance of My birth here is my wish list. Choose something from it:

1. Instead of writing protest letters objecting to the way My birthday is being celebrated, write letters of love and hope to soldiers away from home. They are terribly afraid and lonely this time of year. I know, they tell Me all the time.

I did reread your post and frankly I’m not sure if your satirizing or if your really serious. That’s why I began my post with “if you believe”. I also made it personal and for that I’m sorry.

Over the last 27 years movement conservatives have be demonizing the left, preaching conservatives have some kind moral superiority, that progressive viewpoints are Godless, which in my view is BS. The big middle of this country who do not fit any label are not being represented in the current political climate, in fact are increasly under attack by the right. The last 7 years of radical economic policies, incompetence, preemptive war with no clear stated reason, greed and hate speech from rapid right wing talk show and cable host, have caused my wife’s Eisenhower Republican parents, now in their 80’s and devote Catholics to change their political affications to independent, which I have been since I was old enough to vote, even though my own parents were FDR and JFK Democrats. My mother-in-law mentioned to me she liked John Edwards, I did not mention to them that he was a Democrat. The turning point for them was Rush’s attack on Michael J. Fox targeting his activism on Stem cell. I do not believe that Rush gives a dam about the issue, he merely caries water for the GOP, as long as theirs a tax cut in it for him. My mother would have slapped my face if I had mimicked a person less fortunate than me.

I think about my mom and dad often, they both died in 94, they were good people, they had strong political views and did not fit into any neat conservative-liberal box. My father a decorated combat veteran hated the Vietnam War, as a veteran he realized that war could not be taken lightly; he saw the horror of and smelled the stench of death first hand. They had a well-informed worldview; they would be saddened and outraged at the current state of affairs in this country.

Uhh . . . Christmas was never under attack. Christians are not under attack. So Bill you have accomplished absolutely nothing except to waste a bunch of time creating an issue where there is none. Maybe you should turn your attention to the minority who are actually persecuted for having rational beliefs based on science and not ancient texts. Discrimination against atheists is simply accepted and tolerated by the "moral" majority. Maybe someone should do a story on that since it is actually a valid issue.

I admit it Bill, I'm against Christmas. I'm against celebrations of wealth on a national scale, because I do not believe that wealth is something to be celebrated, but shared. What would Jesus do? I'm pretty sure that given the choice between buying his sweetie a new diamond and donating money to the local soup kitchen, that the soup kitchen would win. But that's only because I buy into this whole thing that people can read the Bible for themselves and decide what God wants us to do. We don't need pundits like you, Bill, or evangelists, or the Church, to tell us what to do with our lives. When I read the Bible, I see a Jesus that forgives people for sins, and heals the sick, and feeds the hungry, and claims that the poor are blessed. I don't see a Jesus that wants us to buy each other things for Christmas because it's good for the economy.
