O'Reilly Declares Victory Over The "Taliban-Like Oppression" Of Christmas

On "The O'Reilly Factor" last night, Bill O'Reilly — who boasts that he's leading the fight against the secular progressive "War On Christmas" (and who one columnist dubbed as leading the "crusaders for creches" ) — declared victory over the "Taliban-like oppression" of Christmas.

Because Bill O'Reilly saved Christmas, "all over the country, the sights and sounds of Christmas are on display. Few department stores are telling employees not to say, 'Merry Christmas.'"

And to those of you who think religion has no place in the public square, Christmas Crusader O'Reilly has seven words for you: "Joseph Stalin, Mao, and Fidel salute you!"

Bill'O started this phony war on Christmas nonsense after he phone sex scandal and when his perverted audio book about teenage crack whores broke. How dumb do you have to be to risk a 50 million dollar a year franchise by sexually harassing your producer and leaving messages on her voicemail. Businesses say happy holidays instead of merry Christmas, it's a business decision and has nothing to do with the secular left destroying American. Oh my God, no. NO, NO, NO, NO !!!!

This just goes to show what happens when liberalism rears its ugly face and despicable creed among honest God fearing folk.

First, a self-professed totally straight US Senator changes planes in Minnesota - one of the traditional hotbeds of liberalism in the USA. No doubt they're playing Bette Midler songs in the concourse. Walking through the airport, he glances at a news stand and probably sees a copy of The Advocate or Mandate. Next thing you know he's tap dancing in the men's room. A good man brought down by pernicious liberalism.

Now, the horror, the horror!. I knew that with Pelousy and Reid in positions of leadership in Congress it was only a matter of time before our brave President's war in Iraq would be undermined.

But who would have thought that Bill O'Reilly would "cut and run" in the war on Christmas. Bill, the enemies of Christmas are never defeated! And, if Christmas is outlawed, only outlaws will have Christmas. A sad thought!

I admit that my Dad and I have chuckled about the war on christmas. The terminology of "war" is overused to say the least. However, there was a concerted move by liberal people in power to change christmas to an all encompassing holiday covering everyone's culture. This is part of a trend to homogenize everything so no one gets offended. They came up with President's Day and got rid of Lincoln and Robert E. Lee day, etc. So you can laugh at O'Reilly if you want, but we all know that somebody was trying to get rid of "christmas".

Man, O'Reilly doesn't get the Taliban's thing. The Taliban would FORCE everyone to celebrate Christmas if they were in charge, and were Christian. They're a religious organization. Taliban, the word itself, basically means "religious students". Their agenda is to force everyone to follow Islam. If there were a Christian equivalent of the Taliban, they would force everyone regardless of belief to observe their own religious holidays.

But the most hilarious thing of all is that O'Reilly is only inventing an issue in order to further polarize people and make people angry at each other right in time for the holidays. It seems to me that he's doing far more damage to the American people during this holiday season than anyone he thinks is "against Christmas". He's attempting to make people hate each other purely as an attempt to keep ratings. That's just about the most Grinchlike thing I could think of. Christian Liberals celebrate Christmas too...the big difference between them and insane Christian fundamentalists is that they are secure enough in their beliefs to NOT feel the need to use the holiday season to attempt to force their viewpoints on people who believe in something else.

Bill O'Reilly is using Jesus as a straw man for his own self-aggrandizement, and some on the religious right are taken in by it. But I don't believe Jesus would be angry with him. I'm certain certain he would have compassion. I can only think it must be excruciating to wake up every morning and be Bill O'Reilly.

I heard him on NPR's Fresh Air, and he was opening up to Terry Gross like I've never heard him do. He talked about his father in what sounded like an abusive relationship that he was in denial about, and his human side came through for a moment. Terry was great with him. She was compassionate, and obviously he needed it. He sounded like he was drinking in the non-judgmental acceptance of her comforting voice as she actively listened about his personal life. He was like a starved orphan child. It was really touching. Like listening in on a therapy session.

Then, Terry asked a question, giving him a chance to answer some criticism that was floating out there about him as journalists often do, and he acted like a child who felt he had been betrayed. If you've ever known anyone with borderline personality disorder, that's what it looked like to me. A wounded child who is deeply stung at the slightest perception of criticism. He could have tossed it off easily; it was relatively benign, but he accused her of setting him up, and stormed out of the interview. He missed out. He could have made a human connection even deeper.

I think he desperately seeks acceptance and rejects it at the same time because he fears he is not worthy of it. A tragic place to be. He needs help. He is being used by Fox News. It's not a pretty picture. In the meantime, to the extent he's taken seriously by other walking wounded like himself who channel his illness in their own lives, he is causing a lot of damage.

This Christmas, let us say a prayer for him, in each our own way.

I must retire to a jay and a Bud. It doesn't take much to make this old man happy on the holidays. I lust not for cards. Don't write a wish list. Refuse to spend more than $5 on greedy little nephews and nieces who don't even know me. But I enjoy buying my mother something nice and I love my wife. I also miss my Dad who was my best friend.
