White House Christmas Card

This morning on "The View," Barbara Walters displayed the Christmas card she recently received from the White House. She said it was the most religious White House Christmas card in her memory. The card included explicit religious references beyond just a bible verse.

The super-Christian card features a verse from Nehemiah (Old Testament, it should be noted):

You alone are the LORD.
You made the heavens, even the highest heavens,
and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it,
the seas and all that is in them.
You give life to everything,
and the multitudes of heaven worship you.
NEHEMIAH 9:6 (NIV)

But whereas in previous years the President and the First Lady opted for messages of happiness, goodwill, and peace, this year featured the following closer:

May the joy of all creation fill your heart this blessed season 2007.

It is then signed by both George and Laura Bush.

The card was financed by the Republican National Committee.

Bush's card further demonstrates his ignorance. First of all, this is a quote from the old testament: Christians are allegedly of the new testament. Secondly, the holiday is about the birth of Jesus Christ not God the father as this card indicates. So the card is a theological error. The god of Abraham is the god of war. If only Christianists like Bush would focus on the new testament wherein there is no war and the words of Jesus are:Care, give, forgive, love one another. Please.

I'm suprised the "moderator" has let over 700 hate comments be posted. Very sad so many people are filled with hate.
Merry Christmas y'all!

I would think it's the spirit of the Great Rotund One, Jerry Falwell, standing outside looking in. However, it's not nearly fat and grotesque enough. Have a merry fucking christmas all you born again, right wing, nut jobs who practice hate and don't love thy neighbor. Go straight to frickin hell, if there is one. Jack Out.

I didn't see anything Christian in that card. First, it quotes the Old Testament, which is the Jewish Bible, no offense to Jews, but the New Testament is the Bible which records the Birth of Jesus on Christmas; Second, it doesn't even mention Jesus' Name or wish Him a Happy Birthday!
I don't have a problem with a secular Christmas Greeting from the White House as the Clintons used to do, but I find this one an insult to Jesus. If you can't say anything nice to Him on His Birthday, just keep your mouth shut.
Will someone please read this to Dumbya? I know he has trouble with his letters. :)

Somewhere deep down I hope all the Christian mythology is true. I'd love to see the look on Bush's face when he was not raptured but left to suffer with all the other meanies here on earth.

It isn't a Christian Card. It is from the Old Testament which all three major religions go back to Abraham. It should not be sent out for a Christian Holy Day that Christmas is.
It is the New World Card.

Let's get real. The card is the height of hypocrisy, and smiling Laura signed it too? Millions of people dead around the world and he plays the oh so Christian Dictator in Chief? Phony. Take a look at his face, body language, intonation, well, that does not look or sound like a "christian" to me. He is arrogant, rude, mean, lacks any compassion or humanistic traits, and is your all-around immature, spoiled brat from the joining of two dynasties. The product is deficient, lacking a soul or any kindness whatsoever. I Know you will say to me, "But you are judging your fellow man." You are correct, but I know the devil when I see the devil and he is the devil, so I am given a pass here. At least, I have given myself a pass. Did you ever see W. in church, pretending to pray, with his eyes squeezed shut, the Master Pretender? Weep for the millions of dead young soldiers and Iraqui citizens because W. has not and will not ever shed a tear.

Let's see....it's a Christian holiday (Short for Holy Day), and they sent a card out with "Christian" references. As someone else already pointed out, the verse in question comes from the Old Testament, which is more or less shared between the Christian and Jewish faith, but let's just give you the point and say it is purely a Christian reference.

What the hell should they have sent? Buddhist verses? Christmas is a celebration of the birth of Christ, it is the most Christian holiday on the planet. I would be disappointed if someone sent me a Christmas card that DIDN'T include some type of Christian references/verses/sayings. Lighten up.

The Old Testament isn't Christian, Arianna. I'm sure you knew that. However, isn't it nice that SnaggleBush adopted it as a Xmas Greeting to his Christian subjects/objects or whatever he and his bitch mother call us as we eat cake?

Dear George,
I would remind you of the writings of Matthew, Chapter 6, verses 5-6.

6:5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

6:6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

in other words - KEEP YOUR DOGMA ON A LEASH!

The Bush family probably thought they were being open minded by appealing to the monotheistic "Lord" of the Abrahamic religions which includes followers of Judaism, Christianity and Islam, but excludes scores of other tax paying Americans.
