White House Christmas Card

This morning on "The View," Barbara Walters displayed the Christmas card she recently received from the White House. She said it was the most religious White House Christmas card in her memory. The card included explicit religious references beyond just a bible verse.

The super-Christian card features a verse from Nehemiah (Old Testament, it should be noted):

You alone are the LORD.
You made the heavens, even the highest heavens,
and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it,
the seas and all that is in them.
You give life to everything,
and the multitudes of heaven worship you.
NEHEMIAH 9:6 (NIV)

But whereas in previous years the President and the First Lady opted for messages of happiness, goodwill, and peace, this year featured the following closer:

May the joy of all creation fill your heart this blessed season 2007.

It is then signed by both George and Laura Bush.

The card was financed by the Republican National Committee.

"Silent night, holy night...
All seemed calm, no cause for fright
Round yon Baghdad the bombers went wild
'Shock and Awe' for each mother and child
Sleep now in permanent peace
Sleep now in permanent peace

Silent night, holy night...
Soldiers quake, at the sight
Gory as streams from a far-distant star
Now let's move on to Fall-a-lujah
Sleep now in permanent peace
Sleep now in permanent peace

Silent night, holy night
Son of Bush has brought us this fright
Radiant beams from an unholy face
Bring the dawn of a lasting disgrace
Sleep now in permanent peace
Sleep now in permanent peace..."

Love, George and Laura

Is Billo gonna go apeshit over this card, since there's no reference to Jesus in it? C'mon Billo, can't you see the war on Christmas is not over?

Why is this season blessed above the other seasons? Sure it's when the birth of Jesus is celebrated by many, but why would the Romans tax people in the winter, when travel was difficult? If that whole birth scenario took place at all, isn't it celebrated five or six months off calendar? The winter solstice was a Pagan observation and the tree was a Pagan symbol, and they were co-opted by the Christians. Question: Why does the "Christian" Bush family celebrate this Pagan holiday?

A prayer: O great and wonderful god creator of the starry heavens, and the mysterious sea creatures,
Could you please enlighten all bonehead ultra religious republicans and republican presidents and steer us back into compassion and skilful action
so that the cause and effect unleashed by a wrongful war and 8 years of bad government not determine the future course. In the very least articulate us into the hubris of euphoric spin, and bless us with enough prozac so we can come out of our existential black hole. amen

Mysticism is the antithesis of reason. To abandon reason and adhere to Christianity is self-destructive self-hat and self-delusion. To deny the very thing that makes us human, our reasoning minds, is the definition of immoral. The words on that card, inciting belief are threats against me and every human being left on earth who is not a mindless slave or an insane criminal.

ChristiansAndClimate.orgg...The Prayer Guide for Global Warming, Evangelical Climate Initiative."

Oh, brother. NOW the evangelicals are gonna "take back the garden," the one they've been actively shitting in lo these many years -- and not for manure, but out of total hostility to this life, this world, this planet.

A little too late to get on this bandwagon -- yeah, the one that free thinkers built.

But tell the Christians to stop driving their SUVs for this sick old earth and they say they can't because they have to tote around the honkload of children they have. Selfish selfish.

If you care, no more than two! If you have more than that, you really don't. Not really.

Hmmmm -- praying for the world looks a shortcut, BlackandProud -- thus my money says that's the only move you'll make.

Are you atheists, agnostics, muslims, deniers, flavor of the monthers, etc. upset because you didn't get a White House card? If you hate it so much be thankful you were spared of this insult to your FEELINGS. I, personally love my card from the President and intend to treasure it with my other 6 or 7 beautiful thoughts from the First Family every Christmas. I almost feel sorry for you people. You must live an awful empty life judging from your hateful posts. What do you have to live for except trashing someone's faith? What are you gonna do, crucify me?

That is the answer.

And the question is: What kind of holiday card does a dry drunk/druggie send out?

The author Mark Twain must have been refering to George Bush when he said: "If Christ were here now (on earth) there is one thing he would NOT be...a Christian."

History will reveal that Bush's Christian "beliefs" didn't square with his actions.
